Don't think many leafs fans will trade Bozak for yakupov.

I fully expect Bozak to go to a contender at the deadline for a 1st round pick or a 2nd + prospect.

Both of those are more valuable than yak, and that allows the leafs to keep Bozak for the season to insulate the youth.

The leafs have tried for 2 years to trade Bozak for a 2nd round pick. It's not happening. Bozak for Yakupov is a fair deal for both sides. Toronto would have to add something small.

Ideally don't want to trade either player, but our lineup is starting to roundout and many fans (including myself) prefer to play Draisaitl top6 minutes.

Lucic - McDavid - Eberle
Maroon - RNH - Draisaitl
Yak/Pou - #3C - Puljujarvi

Pouliot - LW
Yak - RW but can play LW, needs to ply with top6 players to be successful.
Pouliot-Mike Richards-Yakupov

Puljujarvi to the AHL

Zero chance even at 50% retention. Benson was a steal in the 2nd round and I don't want to waste a spot protecting Bozak in the expansion draft.

Fair enough. I see the value as fair but Benson is a guy I also wanted and think can be a steal if he stays healthy and produces. Bozak is worth a 2nd and a prospect imo at 20 percent retention. But the expansion protection also makes it harder to trade players like him who would need to be protected over better guys.

That seems crazy too me. You guys are going to strand Puljio with Yak on the 3rd line?

Lucic - McDavid - X
X - Leon - Eberle
X - RNH - Pulji

Spread it out a bit and give him someone with experience.

One of RNH or Drai is going to get stuck playing more defensive minutes at C, and that will hurt their production, but it's still better for the team overall to run three down the middle:

McDavid
Drai
RNH

you know what you want in a 3c? boring and steady with a rough side. let me introduce you to nick shore... he drinks water for the flavor and thinks mayo is spicy but he will corsi and fancy stat your pants off. this is the new rage.

http://www.jewelsfromthecrown.com/2...16-los-angeles-kings-season-review-nick-shore

to quote drew doughty. (who might know a little about defense.)

“Shoresy made an unbelievable play. Shoresy’s an unbelievable player for us. He doesn’t get even close to enough credit. He kind of just flies under the radar. I think he’s one of the best defensive centermen in the league already, and he’s only in his second year. He did a great job. All I had to do was get the puck on net, and that’s all I was trying to do. Guys had a great screen and the puck went in."

I personally like

Lucic-McDavid-Eberle
Pouliot-RNH-Puljujarvi
Maroon-Draisaitl-Yakupov

... much more.

One of the many things Oilers need to even get a sniff is scoring depth.

The 1st line is the 1st line; they'll probably get the best defencemen of the opponents.

The 2nd line would be the shut down line with offence (hopefully).

The 3rd line would be the soft minutes line getting the best ratio of offensive to defensive zone starts and the weaker competition.

Lucic - McDavid - Yakupov
Pouliot - RNH - Eberle
Maroon - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi/Kassian

Those 3 were dynamite 2 seasons ago and garbage together last season. Pouliot and RNH had injuries or illness and Eberle was coming off of an injury. They were putrid together. If they played like they did 2 seasons ago together we'd basically have 2 first lines.

What Pulju in the minors.., that's not the Oiler way. Just draft them high and throw them right into the league.

Nurse would like to say hi . Please list all the teams that sent 1 OA picks back down . Draisaitl was also sent back down , a little later then it should have been but he was sent back down

All joking and homerism aside.
If you are looking for a 3rd line that can help produce, then David Desharnais is a good fit for Edmonton.
He's a good 3rd C. Can play any position in the bottom 6, and can slot into the 2nd line in case of emergency, if needed. He's only got 1yr left at 3.5m before he's UFA, and he's able to produce.

The issue Habs fans have with Desharnais is that the coach likes to use him in the top 6 regularly, where he's not suited and he takes a slot away from someone suited and better, and the only way to stop it is to trade him.

Desharnais for Yakupov solves both teams problems.

But if you want a defensive 3rd line, then Desharnais is not a fit.

Doesn't make sense for Edmonton to trade a left winger right now. with Lucic, Pouliot, Maroon and Hendo we OK but by no means great. Take Pouliot out and we'll be over playing Hendo and his age will show and then we having one of Kassian or Pacman playing on their off-wing to fill out the 4th line where Hendo belongs.

must be a small sample size if they were together last season.
Ebs missed all of October and some Nov.
Pouliot missed most of December
RNH missed 2 weeks of Jan and all of Feb
Pouliot missed all of March and April.

It was terrible when they played together, they had an absolute stinker of a road trip for sure, I don't recall how long they were together but when they were :help:

They played 212 minutes at ES together in 2015-2016. The year before they played 344 minutes together.

Was Draisaitl better on the wing? Wondering why they aren't going with the 1-2-3 punch down the middle instead of stacking the tOP six?

I agree.

My lineups are usually as above, with Pulju's X-LW being Pouliot (most experienced of our LW after Lucic). I'd be willing to try him with Drai or RNH... Drai is not a vet, but he plays like one.

I'd like to see Yak play with Lucic and McDavid for 20 games... seems like a line that would frustrate. If we could turn Yak into Lucic's yappy little dog, it would greatly increase his utility and revive his career. He has the competitive fire to be a real ****** to play against, I just think he's felt like an outsider on this team... hopefully the new coaching from last year, a lack of alpha-Hall and a new alpha in town (Lucic) will let him grow into himself.

I think the Oilers would bite on Lazar for Yakupov but I think they will try Yakupov with McDavid one more time.

If Lazar is out there for Yakupov, I would personally drive Yak to the airport, I don't hate the kid, but its just not working out here.....and Lazar would be a SOLID 3rd line center former OIL KING, and far better then any 2nd rd pick return that was rumored. I have my doubts on this anyways.

Lucic -- McDavid -- Eberle
Pouliot -- RNH -- Draisaitl
Maroon -- Lazar -- Puljujarvi
Hendricks -- Letestu -- Verteeg (Versteeg can move up and down the RW side to eaz minutes for Pulj and Drai)
Ex. Kassian/Pakarinen
