the islanders and canadians seem to have come to terms on a deal to send center nick bonino (27 yrs, 3 grey *, 79 ov, 3*2.115 mil note: after draft, does one year expire? if so, 2*2.115 mil on the contract). more details to come...

update: the canadians look to be sending a third round pick and center kyle chipchura (29 yrs, 3 grey *, 73 ov 1*0.875 mil note: same as above)

"the new islanders management looked at this year and took it as a year to evaluate what they had to work with. i've talked to gm ATdaisuki and he thinks they have some good pieces in their core and has worked to move contracts that don't fit. they finished near the bottom of the league this year, but he hasn't indicated to me at least, that he wants to do a full rebuild. bonino was the odd man out at center with strome coming close to being nhl ready and acquiring pither from phoenix. good on the islanders for getting rid of an unneeded contract and clearing more cap space while adding a pick to their draft this year."

"that's right bob. the canadians get someone that will step in and be a good third line center for them. he's responsible defensively and has some good offensive tools. with tonnes of cap space and not many players to sign, his cap hit is no problem for them. this is a low risk, good reward trade for montreal in getting someone who has been stuck as the fourth line center. look for him to put up respectable numbers while continuing his good defensive play."

"more pre-draft analysis and trade rumors coming up after the break."

IMO you shouldn't be getting a pick. Bonino is a pure cap dump. Don't approve your deal.

And can we keep that trade period before the draft open?

he's still a viable player. his salary is bad, but he's probably worth 1.8. with a few years left and montreal having tonnes of cap space on top of not many players to sign, the salary and even term means little to them. chipchura is there because they are at the contract limit. i wanted it to be bonino for a 3rd.

if the trade is to be denied, it should be because montreal actually has a few similar overall centers (though looking at the skills individually, they are not as good) whom i didn't see until i was almost done my analysis. if chipchura is too good of a player going my way, i'll change him for an even worse player on a 1 year deal.

Bonino at 27yo and 79ovr is a far better player than Chipchura, I have no problem with him earning a 3rd rounder back even if the primary goal is to move out salary.

Approved.

Matt Read is on the block for anyone who wants him. He makes like 2.6 mil and has been regressing every year. He's 29, 78 overall.

He scored 28 goals 3 years ago, and I believe 20 the next year. He just had 11 points last year which is horribad.

I would take a 7th for him really.

In our last league I made a trade for first overall. It cost me something like...

3rd overall
~18th overall
Jeff Petry (was like 28 years old, and 85 overall top 4)
Borque (80-81 overall 3rd line LW about 25 years old and 3.5 stars)

CPU Trade Proposal:

:avs

10th overall pick
G Michal Neuvirth (84 overall, 27 years old. 3 years left @ $4M)
LW Jonathan Audy-Marchessault (79 overall, 24 years old, 3.5 stars. will be RFA)
D Jamie Oleksiak (77 overall, 22 years old, 4 yellow stars. will be RFA)
LW Brandon Saad (77 overall, 22 years old, 3.5 yellow stars. 1 year left @ $1M)

:cbj

2nd overall pick (I think)
two contract dumps who are like 70 overall UFAs.

Colorado's best goalie is 80 overall so they could use Neuvirth. He's been good for me but now I have Oscar Dansk who is just as good and younger. I don't have room for the prospects but they will be very good NHL players.

I hate trades to get into the top 3 picks, in real life they basically never happen anymore and teams are rumoured to ask for the moon. But you're giving up A LOT even if they never reach their full potential in game. IRL it's not impossible that the 10th and Saad could merit the switch, unless the second overall is a franchise player or something.

You already have my "automatic" approval anyway, but just putting this out there in case people were on the fence.
