I’ll be curious to see how Dubois will do in Washington because it’s not like Captain Yellowlace’s work ethic is legendary either. Who’s going to push Dubois? Team culture has been f***ed for a while over there but the Caps had started to clean out the locker room getting rid of Samsonov and Kuznetsov. Now they bring someone even worse on an unmovable contract.

Wasteland
exactly

PLD plays NOTHING like his size would imply, he shows almost no skill, he's baby shit soft on the puck, mopes and skates to the bench to let someone else deal with the problems
Supposedly a dead sloth plays better defensively.

Well, I hope in a couple years he is happy for the opportunity to play for the Habs.

Who the hell knows but the Habs were never interested in Dubois at that cap hit. We were also not that dumb to offer those futures to acquire either.

Our message was consistent. We are interested but not desperate.

Captain dad bod will push Dubois for both him and himself.

There is no way this isn’t a win for LA.
All they had to take back was 3 yrs of a backup goalie to get out of the contract for a proven lazy quitter, and… no retention, no added piece(s)…good on the Kings management for putting ego aside and doing what needed to be done.

Curious if there’d be a market for Kuemper at 50%…maybe LA could get a mid pick from someone in need of a backup
LA is going to keep Kuemper as their #1, with Rittich backing him up. It's risky because he just had his worst season, but chances are that he'll rebound some (just as Dubois should), he played well for them once and Talbot/Rittich was a seemingly underwhelming duo that exceeded expectations this past season. They might've brought back Talbot if he weren't about to turn 37, and Kuemper is a similar quality goaltender (career .914 SV%, compared to Talbot's .913). It's not ideal to keep betting on overage backup goalies to overperform, and there'd probably be criticism in LA if Kuemper were acquired to be the #1 any other way, but not so much when it's the price to rid yourself of a player and contract like this.

Haha. Congrats for reaching on that one. I'm pretty sure team Canada would have center options if they thought Dubois was cancer like so many ignorant fans think on these boards. He's much better than most are willing to admit. Are the Jets crazy for wanting him to stay and extend? NO!
There's no cap in the World Championships.

And Canada isn't obligated to have PLD on the roster for the next 7 years.

PLD's lazy and uninspired play would be frustrating but could be reluctantly accepted if he was paid appropriately for the player he played like.

Why do you keep ignoring the multiple Kings fans who tell you he played everywhere, and that it was a "deployment" issue?

The contract was quite literally just moved.

It's real and what do you mean by the Kessel diet? Kessel was always fit, just looked bloated because of his cancer medication.

Wow, missed this entirely. Don't see too many big trades during the finals.

That... uh, sure is something. At least the Kings were willing to admit their mistake and take their medicine? Kuemper has been rough the last couple of years, but he was great in Colorado. Maybe the change of scenery will shake things up for him. If not, $5m for 3 years is manageable for a team that isn't a contender.

Are the Kings a contender? Certainly not in Kuemper is in your rotation.

Hell no. Kuemper doesn’t change that at all. The Kings are the definition of pretenders, actually.

Doesn’t change the fact that PLD is an absolute cancer and your fanbase will hate him just as instantly as ours did.

Fair enough. We need him to put up some points, it’s certainly a huge gamble.

Because it's easier to ignore the fans that aren't telling you what you want to hear than it is to actually look into things.

Ironically, it reminds me a lot of how, over a decade ago, a handful of particularly persistent Kings fans would keep getting really pissed off and in severe denial mode any time The Former #7's tenure here came up. Of course, based on that example, I would have expected PLD to do extremely well there, not find new lows. Never really can tell with some people.
