If they make the playoffs without him then great, but we are not a contender with or without him. I like the return just worried what our center depth will be next year.
To get rid of either of those players, picks or prospects would have to be included. I could see someone asking Berglund + Schmaltz for a 2nd. No one who is contending wants/could use either one of them at term and salary.Who the heck wants Sobotka and Berglund? Ive said all along.... nobody does
Even with the current roster I wouldn't consider or put Berglund or Sobotka in the lineup as 2C. We have options that I consider better even if they are yet unproven. I would let Thomas forge his path at 2C over watching those two numb-nuts play 2C.It is a bit of a gamble. We had better hope that we can acquire a top 6 C in the off season, or hope that Thomas is ready. Neither is a certainty. We could be going into 2018-19 with Sobotka or Berglund as our 2C. Not liking that idea.
Not a lot of options in free agency. There is Tavares, Bozak, Thornton, and Stastny. It is a bit of a gamble. I thought Hoffman and Tarasenko on the same line would have been deadly. Hes not a center, but if you got two dynamic scorers on the same line, Sobotka or Berglund between them doesnt look so bad.

I got the idea that Stastny's wife wanted to stay in Denver, and that he, more or less promised to return to Colorado after his 4 years with The Blues, because of his business interests there, children's schools, and most of their family's good friends are there. I didn't think there would be much chance he'd re-sign with The Blues, unless they looked a solid bet to compete heavily for The Stanley Cup over the next 3 years, following this contract.I don't think this trade of Stas affects our chances to re-sign him whatsoever if that's the route that is chosen to go down. The way DA made it sound, it sounded extremely mutual with the underlying tone of hey go take your chance at making a cup run and we'll continue the path of building from within
With all due respect Robb, I don't believe you have any way of knowing that kind of information.I got the idea that Stastny's wife wanted to stay in Denver, and that he, more or less promised to return to Colorado after his 4 years with The Blues, because of his business interests there, children's schools, and most of their family's good friends are there. It isn't really logical when you think about it. Stastny can't promise his wife who he will sign with 4 years into the future. Who is to say the Avs are even going to want him?
He's not returning to st. louis. He'd have stayed if that was the case. He won't get 7 mil, but some team will pay him 6 mil at 5 years. Teams that have a need do it for obvious reasons. Boston is reaping the benefit of a contract exactly like that.I agree, first of all he waived his full NMC to come to Winnipeg. He is friends with Blake Wheeler as they have the same agent, and heard that Wheeler even offered Stastny his #26 (I personally don't believe it). Winnipeg is definitely further away from Colorado than St Louis is. I think Stastny will play 2018-19 where he feels it's best for him. It may be Colorado, he may return to St. Louis, or he enjoys his stay in Winnipeg and re-signs there. Heck, he could go play in the province of Quebec where he was born and his father and uncles make their career. If Stastny expects to get $7M/year he won't be playing anywhere.
With those two he’s going to make WPG fans very happy. I’d drool to have that line. His linemates here have been Steen and a rotating door of 3rd liners and rookies and mostly with defensive assigments. Imagine how he will do with those two.I actually came here to ask what your thoughts were of Stastny as a player and what he brings to Winnipeg? There is speculation he will play with Nik Ehlers and Patrik Laine.
If stastny doesn’t come back I think we will be just fine. It will just push our true contending window out another year or two. He's not returning to st. louis. He'd have stayed if that was the case. He will be a good fit for the Jets. He's strong defensively, and is a good passer. He's not really flashy at all, but at the end of the day he finds a way to put up 50+ points a season by making simple, smart plays.I actually came here to ask what your thoughts were of Stastny as a player and what he brings to Winnipeg? I read somewhere, that the 2018 1st Rounder is conditional. Does anyone here know the conditions?Armstrong!! Way to go!
Wanted Stastny gone today, gets us back into the first round (here's to the Jets losing a lot in the final 20) and a decent prospect.
Most of all, gets something for a guy who was likely going to walk anyway. Also saves us the dreaded Armstrong extension
