55 as #1 center??????????
And The #3 centre, - at the SAME time? A defencman taking 2 regular forward shifts - EVERY GAME!!!???? Playing 1st line minutes 20+. plus 3rd Line minutes - 14-15 min. PLUS a regular defensive 2nd shift (20 min.) (as The Blues' defense can't afford to do without him. 55 minutes a game, EVERY game???? He'd burn out very quickly that way!!!:eek::eek::naughty::naughty::naughty:

Correct it’s top 3 protected.
Ha! Ha! That would make Stastny the WORST locker-room cancer in NHL history, if adding him were to result in The Jets losing EVERY single game since he joined the team. Even then, I wonder if it would be mathematically possible for their choice position to even finish low enough to be in the draft lottery.

Yeah I think it was just a semantics thing lol. There’s no way it gets pushed back to a 2019 1st.

I am fine with this and hope this is just the start of a very active off season that trims a lot of the fat off of this roster. It sucks that they tanked like this but they did and hopefully this is just the first step in management telling the core group of these players in a very loud voice “ It’s on you this time.”

I wonder if this closes the door on Stastny's era in STL? You've got to think the Blues were disappointed with the production for their $28M contract. That said, I could see Pauly Walnuts re-signing in STL when Tavares comes off the board.

...unless, this is simply making room for Tavares' arrival today. :sarcasm:
We've got the 1st now to meet the ante and buy in to the Tavares-game.:)
I hope it’s the end of the Stastny era. Not his fault but it was forgettable

Jets fan here. I think both sides generally agree this was a fair deal. Pretty gutsy for your GM to make this deal given that you’re on the playoff bubble, but it does make sense for the long-term benefit of your franchise. The Central is hyper competitive and it will be tough to make it to the WCF.

Most Jets fans think Stastny will slot between Ehlers and Laine.

If you folks don’t make the show, hope to see a few of you cheer Stastny on. He will likely play a very big role for us.

Cheers!
No playoff bubble here, our boys have imploded! I hope they prove me wrong but they have been bad since December

Paul might crush it on a line with Laine and Ehlers! Best of luck to the Jets! Hope you win it all now!

Every non-playoff team has a shot at #1-3 now, I think the lowest chance is around 2% for #1 and slightly higher for #2-3. Jets are "only" 10 points up on the Flames who are ninth .. so its not impossible that they miss. Odds are probably 0.1% of them winding up with a lottery pick but I guess why not throw the clause in there just in case.

Exactly, its never gonna tie up a deal to ask for that. So why not protect against a doomsday scenario.

They turned it around last year after trading Shattenkirk. Who knows? Perhaps this trade lights a fire under your team. Or maybe they should be riding Hutton - huge disparity in performance between your two goalies.

Considering Laine actually shoots the ****ing puck when he gets a pass I'm expecting Stastny to look like a ****ing rockstar and get another stupid contract this summer.
Actually...Laine....often does not shoot the puck when he has the chance.

Thus the relatively low shot count and high S%. Goat boy is picky.

blues had depth on D last year which allowed them to not miss a beat after moving 22 (who was/is horrible defensively)

blues have zero depth at center, this trade will effect them alot more.

i think they make the playoffs still but id be shocked if they won more than a game or two.

Connecting the dots here. Stastny had a full NMC. Except for a few really smart fans on here nobody was talking about this. No insiders. Does this mean he would only waive for the jets? Did the Blues start the conversation?

Foley is a great prospect. Not blue chip but not far either.

Chevy's interview stated the Blues GM reached out to him. Chevy said he was interested & backed off on the Brassard deal then took the time to speak with Wheeler as he knows Stastny. The two were line mates for the 2014 US Olympic Team in Sochi.

Stastny had a full no move & after being informed there was potential to join Winnipeg, gave his blessing. The terms followed.

The trade is being explained wrong by many.

-It's a first in 2018 unless the Jets somehow get a 1-3 pick in this years draft. If that scenario unfolds, the pick becomes a first rounder in 2019.

-The prospect traded isEric Foley, but he's an unsigned college player. Should he not sign in St. Louis only then do they get the Jets 4th

I think we miss the playoffs. We are one of the worst face off teams in the league and we just got rid of our best face off guy. I have no expectations now, but these last few weeks are going to be brutal to watch.

Maybe, I just see such a fractured team that I don’t see this happening, hope I am wrong

He's not returning to st. louis. He'd have stayed if that was the case. He won't get 7 mil, but some team will pay him 6 mil at 5 years. Teams that have a need do it for obvious reasons. Boston is reaping the benefit of a contract exactly like that.
You keep stating this like it's some irrefutable fact, when in reality none of us have any idea whether or not Stastny would be interested in re-signing in St. Louis and/or the Blues' front office would be interested in re-resigning Paul. Just stop.

We will certainly miss Paul on the dot, but the Blues are actually 13th in the league in team FO%. 13th is not great, but its certainly not "one of the worst face off teams in the league."

When the home team implodes, I need an outlet. Been watching the Penguins, Maple Leafs, and Jets play good hockey and win games. (Will never root for Nashville.) It will be refreshing hopefully to see Stastny thrive on the Jets, a team that knows how to put the puck in the net.

On the Blues side, it is amazing how quickly this season went from one of surprise and hope to absolute tank. Stastny should be happy to leave the sinking shutout ship and spend the rest of the year on a team that still has a chance to win the Cup.

I kinda wanna see a 3rd line of Kostin-Thompson-Foley. 3 powerforwards with good passing, shots, and speed.

I'm curious to see what Erik Foley's plans are for next season. I've seen a couple people speculate that he will want to return to Providence for his senior year, but I wonder if we can entice him to sign and play in the AHL next year given all the young talent and brand new affiliation...
