This is basically a low 2nd rounder and a 3rd, it's still a bad trade but damn if Winnipeg starts to fall off this will be a very bad trade.

Honestly Winnipeg made out like bandits if we take into account the astronomical price Vancouver paid for a rental as well. Monahan has been even more productive than Lindholm and the Peg got him a basically half the cost of Lindholm. Good trade.
Except all Money's points were gained on the PP and according to HFBoards those do not count.

Suck it HF. Monahan gets a 1st.

I had views which ive expressed along with supporting stats from NHL, comparables, etc etc to support Monahan at least getting 1st rounder value and still someone told me i was "just pumping and dumping" and another that i was making shit up to "win a fictional trade" or some stupid S and otherwise not offering counter arguments other than being pretentious and condescending.

Hahah I was here to put a "i told you so" but trying to find a way to not sound petty. Maybe "Suck it HF" is too strong for me. Maybe "Slurp it, you two?"

Let's be real: Montreal is getting a very late first, basically a 2nd, in a really bad draft, so it absolutely doesn't count as a 1st rounder, but that's ok, because Monahan's points were all off the pump and dump scheme to get him PP points, and they don't really count (they're even a bit negative, really). So the neysayers had a point !:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Who gives a shit what a bunch of random posters on a forum thought the perceived value is?

Jets got a 2C who's on pace for ~60 points and the Habs can kick start their rebuild.

Win, win
Calling this a "win-win" definitely sounds like coping to me but we'll see.

It depends on what your ownership wants. Our ownership wants us to make the playoffs and be competitive and that is what our GM does for us. Right moves or wrong moves that is what they are trying to accomplish.

But good luck with the asset acquiring.
Both GMs did exactly what was needed to help their team win obviously i would of prefered McGroarty or Lambert but that was never happening so yes ill be happy about receiving a 1st for a player we got paid a 1st to take

I'm surprised that so many people think this trade is a steal by the Habs. Anyone who has actually seen Monahan play knows this is the appropriate value.

Great on faceoffs, good veteran appreciated by all, great playmaker, extremely versatile player that is efficient in the perimeter and also right in front of the net.

The real steal happened when a team actually paid a us a first to take on such a great all-around player.

I gotta say.. im a little concerned about the impact on the habs. No Dvo, No Money, No Newhook, No Dach.... Kind of sends the message that management "Gave up" on the playoffs to the players, IMO. Savard is probably next.

I like Dach but the guy has been injured twice now. Newhook is ok I guess but he doesn't move the needle. The best thing you guys have done is bring in St.Louis.

When do you think you will make the playoffs? Next year or the year after or the year after that. Clock is ticking
Yes, Dach has been injury prome..................habs are in the bubble right now if he plays this year.
Playoff bubble next year, playoffs the year after.....
The kids will be fine, and Hughes at least has a plan...............we no longer have a clown running the team.

I think most have fans were expecting he’d get a first. So the conditional 3rd is just icing on the cake for them
Consensus was more along the lines of a 2nd and a 3d or a 2nd and a B prospect.

I even thought Winnipeg had an advantage, since they own Montreal's 2nd and that's likely a far better 2nd round pick than anyone else might have.

I often said Habs fans could hope for a 1st but should expect a 2nd.

Newhook back after the AS game.....
Playoffs were never in the cards, once Dach went down in game 2.
No depth to cover over on that loss.

The guy who barely was a 2C on habs is a 2C for the Jets? The guy has less ESP than Mason effin Appleton and Namestnikov.. We did improve our PP though so thats good..

I love seeing Montreal fans get so excited for a late pick in an average draft class. With them getting rid of one of their few decent offensive guys, it should help their second rounder we have get even better. At least we can use that second rounder to bring in another piece or keep the pick. Vancouver set the price high during a thin centre market, with a couple more centres available, he wouldn’t fetch a first. I don’t mind the trade though. Monahan will play with solid offensive guys in Ehlers and Perfetti, I think he’ll out perform expectations. Chevy has killed it in trades for the most part, I’ll trust his decision for now.
Habs fans have a right to be excited. HFBoards told Habs fans they were delusional thinking they could pull a 1st round pick for Money. Habs always said there are dumb GMs who are always waiting to get fleeced.

Habs fans were right.
