Well Habs fans... I'm eating hypothetical crow. I hope he's as good as you all hyped him up to be
I think he's even better than what most Habs fans think he is. He was playing with 3rd liners and really looked good IMO. I haven't seen him play a lot, but often he was the best forward on the ice.

I might be in the few, but I think he's a great pickup for the Jets. Will he remain healthy is the real question here and that's probably why he was traded before March.

Honestly Winnipeg made out like bandits if we take into account the astronomical price Vancouver paid for a rental as well. Monahan has been even more productive than Lindholm and the Peg got him a basically half the cost of Lindholm. Good trade.

This is the 3rd time that Winnipeg has traded a 1st for a rental. The picks dealt for Stastny and Hayes were used on Sandin and Heinola respectively.

Odds are that this trade won’t mean much 5 years down the line. Winnipeg probably won’t go deep in the playoffs (based on pure probability). Montreal most likely won’t draft anything meaningful with that pick.

The value is there! Probably Mtl could have a bit if waiting at the last minute, but they avoid the injury risk factor.

I realy wish that Winnipeg will get the same Monahan that help our cause.

Welldone and thank you Sean!

Habs aren't that great but that is a pretty sweet deal getting a 1st to take Monahan, play him with your top guys, turn around and flip him for a 1st and a 3rd.

Can't do much better than turning a middling forward into two 1sts and a 3rd.
Monahan mostly played with AHL caliber players. He didn't play a lot with top guys like Suzuki, Caufield, Dach.

It’s a decent top 10 but then falls off quick from what I’ve seen
Imo this is a interesting opinion since there is practically no top 10 at this point, literally every ranking has insane variability.

What are you on about? I have no problem discussing it and absolutely no problem with Hans fans discussing it. As a Jets fan I think what the Jets gave up is just the normal price to acquire a 2c, especially in a year with very little centres available and a lot of teams looking for one. Its called supply and demand.

Ironically, what made giving up the Jets first a lot more manageable is the fact we have MTL’s 2nd round pick. Thos two picks will most likely only be 10-15 spots apart from each other. Even more ironic is the fact we acquired it in the PLD trade. With Monahan being the Habs 3rd best point producer, losing him will only help that 2nd rd pick become even better for the Jets.

All in all I think its a win win trade. Jets got what they needed, and MTL got what they wanted. Cheers!
You brought it up, man. We get trashed more than any other fanbase no matter how realistic or not realistic our posts are. This is a plain fact. I can't even begin to count how many times this happens on the regular. It's a very biased theme and shouldn't be allowed. If it wasn't, the overall quality here would increase by a lot. As I've said over and over. Monahan is an excellent player and the Jets got full value for their picks. No one was "bent over" in this trade. Monahan is a high quality player in many different ways. And the Jets and their fans will understand that clearly now that they'll ACTUALLY watch him play. Cheers to you too.

I really liked Monahan. Thought he was great. Jets fans will like him. Smart player and deceptively skilled.

I think this trade is literally the middle between what Habs Fans were saying and what everyone else was guessing.

Interesting...
I think most have fans were expecting he’d get a first. So the conditional 3rd is just icing on the cake for them

Like bandits 😂

Actually 2 first and maybe a 3rd for taking on salary for a year!
