Lots of people who were sure he would not return a 1st are eating crow right now.
I feel like people are underrating Monahan, he's played really well for Montreal this year.
This.

Yes, he has gotten a lot of PP1 time to pile up points but on many nights he has been our best forward (not saying much, I know).

Playing with 2 of Ehlers/Vilardi/Connor/Perfetti should lead to good results.

I've always wondered about the fit, so it will be interesting to see where the Jets plan to use him. Either he takes Names's spot and Names moves to the bottom 6, or they try Monahan there?

Hope the experiment works. Might allow the Jets to rest Scheifele a little more as well if needed.

See a lot of posts about Crow too. There should be plenty for everyone as for everyone that said he wouldn't get a 1st, there were others thinking he'd get a prospect like Lambert, Barlow, etc.

Very good asset management by Montreal, however if the condition for the extra pick is a 3rd four drafts from now if the Jets win the cup, it’s essentially Monahan for a 1st. Four years+development time might as well be a lifetime in sports, assuming that pick even turns into something useful.

I'm thinking Kent Hughes had fixed the price at a 1st rounder.... no one was willing to pay it, until the Lindholm deal made other teams think they needed to "counter", and as soon as a firm 1st was possible, the deal got made.

I honestly wonder if he should've been more patient, it's not like there are that many options at center, and a bidding war might have led to an even greater return (at the risk of injury, other teams selling and lowering value through rarity, other teams sustaining injuries and dropping out of big-time buyers, etc.)

Man NHL GMs aren't fit to run a taco stand.
HFBoards this summer said the Jets were done and going to be bottom feeders and might as well deal all their assets and tank. Because of the GM they're criticizing's commitment and actions they're currently 6th in the league.

Habs fan here, too, not Jets. GM's know way more than we do. The value of a 1st isn't as much as we tend to think it. Late 1st has like a 1/3rd chance of even becoming an NHLer, and rarely a star player. You might as well take that risk and deal it while you have a chance at a run and your players are in their prime.

And to think I was barred from the Monahan discussion for arguing with a "genius" who was saying a 3rd or 4th TOPS. What BS we have to endure...the price to pay for always being RIGHT!!! Go Habs!

Woof Winnipeg got bent over hard. The 3rd round pick is what he's worth. Imagine having Scheifele as your 1C and Monahan as your 2C. Even Helle can't handle that much rubber. Winnipeg done round 1.

Funny that Seravelli was getting so much hate for daring to suggest that Monahan would net a 1st.
He said he would bet a mortgage payment with Ryan Pinder that Monahan goes for a 1st, on their podcast yesterday
