Wow the playoffs are intense. Can we compete

You're wasting your time.

According to zekes for days we had a team that went from last to the playoffs with:
  • a garbage coach
  • a garbage goalie
  • a garbage GM
  • garbage Marleau
  • garbage Zaitsev
  • garbage Connor Brown
It's the greatest mystery in sports.
To be fair, a lot of that garbage is gone and Andersen has been pretty garbage this year.

He hasn't been good this year.

Still trying to figure out how we went from last to the playoffs with all the rest of the rubbish in 2017 though.

It really seems to be a waste of time but really that's why I'm here to pass some time hahahaha

I think the suicide pass talk was supposed to mean the stretch pass. Which yes Babcock painfully insisted on using.

But that’s more of an exit, not an entry. You can’t stretch pass an entry because you’ll be offside.

Perhaps @saltming refers to firing the puck to the winger waiting on the blueline who tips it in deep to avoid the icing call? A variation of chip and chase, which you don’t want to deploy when skill and speed is your thing.

I think you misread '-->' as '>'.

I didn't mean 'better than', I meant 'changed too.

P.s. love your username
My bad...I was feeling so "right" with my responses too. I'll see myself out.
p.s. mrspenis was taken.

The word you used was mediocre. Would you care to retract that and admit that perhaps that wasn't an appropriate description of Andersen his first few years here or are you going to keep trying to change the subject?

The normal thing to do here would be admit that perhaps mediocre wasn't the correct word to use and then we'd just move on. But because you're just off the charts stubborn and refuse to ever concede a point no matter how small, we'll just stay stuck here. You'll keep avoiding the question, keep trying to change the subject ...

C'mon buddy, show us you're capable of growth. Admit that Andersen was definitely better than mediocre his first few years here. I know you can do it Zeke. :)

No I don't care to retract it.

Like you said - borderline top-10 at his best.

Average starting goalie.

Glad you've finally come around.

No I was referring to when say Nylander and Matthews were entering the zone and Nylander would try a pass through 3 defenders. Those were fairly numerous in the first year

I think people are more concerned with his personality than his coaching abilities personally.

They should be more concerned about his systems tbh.

His motivational tactics actually worked pretty well, for a while at least.

The 3x 60 point scoring rookies was obviously the spearhead of the turnaround but if they didn't have 1) a quality goalie or 2) semblance of quality coaching for that stage of the rebuild or 3) a supporting cast they never would have made the playoffs and stayed in the playoffs for many years in a row. Edmonton had 2x 100 point scorers in 2019 and they couldn't make the playoffs. And they certainly had a mediocre coach and mediocre goalies and zero supporting cast.

We can and we will.

And tbh only the fla-tb game was overly intense.
Definitely sire. We have thugs now too, many many thugs that is. And also OUR TEAM will lift our aggressiveness and intensity TOO in the plezayoffs. Like so many teams do. Our thugs simmonds, joe, bogostick, FOLIGNO, HYMAN etc will do destruction when these REAL games begin. See it yourselves. WE might be the most aggressive team there is and intensity wise too. Remains to be seen. The game is thursday.

I can't get a read on whether his ego got in the way of his systems here or if he just didn't read the need to change/adapt. It's not like his Wings teams played similar to the Leafs.

The leafs always had much better offensive depth than the Oilers ever did.

Jvr Kadri Hyman bozak brown kapanen / rielly Gardiner was never something the Oilers could match....though the Oilers still made the playoffs without it.

The leafs became an instant playoffs team because of overwhelming offensive talent, not coaching and goaltending.

I'd say it was definitely a part - insecure/ego coaches always kind of impose under the limelight here and just double down in stubbornNess under the criticism. Happened to Carlyle and Wilson too.

Babcock did some good things to start, and definitely said the right things....but the systems seemed to just get worse and worse and more contrary to the strengths of the roster as time went on.
