How is possible that Kessel had the better +/- the last year they played together :dunno:

I'm honestly very surprised by this.

I would trade Bergeron for Kessel in a heartbeat. But I have a thing for complete two way players who play a 200' game versus a soft one dimensional player who happens to be a fast skater with a good shot.

Why are Bruins fans chiming in on this?

I'm a Leafs fan and I'm gonna say it appears to me that they know a lot more about what Bergeron is as a player. Some of the comments being made about him are ludicrous. Soft board player? Wow. One hit from retiring? How disingenuous.

In my opinion discussion on a hockey board is about objective reality, not blind faith home boy cheering. If the roles were reversed I'd suggest that not very many Leaf fans would trade Bergeron for Kessel.

And the 14 votes are from lurking Bruins fans.

Not mine.

Also fwiw I suspect Bergeron, even though he's older, will play longer then Kessel.

Hits =/= Toughness.

Bergeron is seldom seen in the corners as a result of his concussion issues. If I wanted another player like that on the Leafs I would be more than glad to have Bergeron, just not at the expense of Kessel.

wow, what a completely uninformed statement. Bergeron is always in the corners and works his butt off. He is great along the boards and is a battler. (no I don't mean someone who fights) Not wanting to do the trade is one thing but making crap like this up is quite comical.

I don't think that the "no way in hell" option is a strong enough description of how negatively I would respond to such a deal.

Conversely I could say if you put Kessel with Julien's Bruins he would have to sacrifice offence for defence.

Go ahead and cite 2009, but I would say the current iteration of the Bruins is even more defensively sound, especially amongst forwards.

Bruins were 3rd in the league in shots/game and goals/game last season, while they were only 13th in shots against/game (1.0 less shot allowed per game than the Leafs), and 6th in goals allowed/game. I'm not sure how much sacrificing offense for defense is going on with the Bruins.

The team is simply too stacked, and had one of the best goaltending duos among the league who are able to single-handedly steal games for the team. Kessel would do just fine on the Bruins, IMO.

While I think its a bad trade, remembering Patrice in the WJC alone, and the idea of in the future something like

Lupul Getzlaf Kadri

JVR Bergeron Frattin

MacA Grabo Kulemin

Is a pretty sweet dream to have

You're delusional.

30 GMs would not trade the NHL's 6th highest scorer for a non-top line guy who is one concussion from retirement.

I certainly believe 30 GMs would give up the 6th highest scorer for a World Jr gold winner and MVP, World Hockey Championship winner, Olympic gold medal winner, Stanlely cup winner and Selke winner. You keep telling yourself otherwise and as for the one concussion from retirement, all players in the league are one concussion from retirement. Bergerons resume speaks for itself.

Well, if we're going to get Getzlaf, I like this lineup better:

Lupul-Getzlaf-Kessel
JVR-Kadri-Grabo
Kulemin-Bozak-Frattin

And we wouldn't even have to make an idiotic trade to achieve it.

Leafs fan voting yes.

Star two way centermen are more important than scoring wingers.

Watch the 2010 olympics for proof.

Kessel was riding pine while Bergeron got the defensive assignments.

What lead would Bergeron protect exactly, especially without Kessel scoring goals.

Players like Bergeron get a chance to succeed when players like Kessel can score.

In Toronto, Bergeron would have to carry some offensive burden that I don't think he is capable of doing.

kessel is a minus player so his scoring hasn't really helped the leafs all that much on his line.

bergeron would be a plus player especially with lupul and macarthur.

And you are under the impression they both played for the same team right?

You don't know that.

That's just your opinion as a Leafs fan.

(Funny how Wilson was the coach too.)

Ya it's funny how finishing 6th in NHL scoring the first time as an established player you have 1 and I repeat one decent linemate, will change the perception of a player.

Bergeron is a winner though.

He's won just about everything there is to win in hockey.

Kessel hasn't won anything.

Then when you think of how Bergeron plays the game itself....its even more clear.

Are the 20ish more points kessal will get worth the huge drop off in defensive talent? Not even close.

Right he is a winner because he has the luxury to be on team Canada for international play, and have a Norris and Vezina winner on his NHL team. Don't try and paint him as the guy who carries his team.

In a vacuum, I want my forward to be the person who scores the most goals/points. Would never such a deal unless we had another sniper on the team.

Even then, Boston would have to add another significant piece.
