Would You Trade Justin Holl For.?

What would you be willing to trade Justin Holl for?

Holl had been a top pairing guy on a team that's been top 5 in the league. Suffice to say, there would be a ton of interest in him right now.

That said, nobody is giving up a 1st rounder for him. Maybe a 2nd rounder for what is essentially a rental.

Also, we can't get rid of him unless he's replaced with some who is better and can reliably eat up the minutes that he does.

It'll be an own rental for sure cementing a new Leaf tradition of being punished for their own (regular season) success. Amazing how many decent players we've seen walk for nothing in the last 5 years.

The guy is getting 21 minutes a night on a top 5 NHL team, and you honestly don't expect him to even hit 1 mil in salary next season?

I think you may be surprised what he earns come July 1st

Why not ask if you would trade Marner for a first, or 2 firsts or 3 firsts.
Of course you would trade Holl, but only to help 2023 Cup chase, anything else is ridiculous to consider, unless it is for Bedard.
 
The team's winning window is open. Trading Holl for a future pick is useless. He's been much better for nearly 2 months now after a tough October.

If your trading Holl, it's either in a package for an upgrade on the blueline, or for 2LW. Otherwise, keep him and utilize him in the playoffs.

I didn't realize it was a multi-option poll so I voted as if what the minimum return would have to be for me to trade him and voted 2nd. I've now changed it to 1st and 2nd.

Fully healthy I think Holl is my 7th D, but depth is more important than a 3rd. I think our 8th D is good enough I'd be willing to take the hit for a 2nd though. He's not worth that and a 2nd is enough that it could be used to upgrade the forwards.

Given how injury prone are defence is, we definitely are going to need to be 8-10 deep for the playoffs.

I think so far this season Rielly, Brodie, Sandin, Lily, Gio, Mete, and Benn have all spent some time injured. In the playoffs I think the likelihood inceases since if there is a heated situation half the forwards will do nothing and Matthews will just sit there smirking as one of his teammates needs to take some punches for him.

Cant see anyone trading for holl straight up. In a deal that brings in another defense he may go back the other way as the roster player, not the the main piece.

When he is a Stanley winner who gives a crap. Let him go for nothing after the victory.
Planning for next year is ridiculous. All in for 2023...

That's the problem, with Rielly back someone gets scratched. If Holl has a bad game he should be scratched for Timmins. Maybe they go with the 7 defenseman, 11 forward model for a bit?
 
Not to be no fun, but I don't even really want to try to guess his trade value, generally speaking.

At this current point, there is no reason to move off of him and doing so could honestly be quite disastrous in the current season if the plan is to replace him internally (different story with a corresponding move)

I suspect he'll get a sneaky good contract that's 4-year term and over $3M annually this off-season, and I don't think the Leafs will be paying it.

He's likely just an own rental that logs matchup minutes and heavy PK usage down the stretch.

Ken Holland exists, he's gonna get the Ceci deal and we're going to hear about how our D will crumble without him all summer.

Yeeeeesh.

Holl has a body of work. I know it and you know it too. How did Holl do in the past without Muzzin (both in the regular season and playoffs)? Not so great.

Why are people coming at me (of all people) about Holl? I don't rip him. I don't love the guy. He's fine. But why are people ignoring their short term memories? Are you suggesting that he's right up there with Brodie, Marner, Nylander, etc. as the most important player on the team?
 
There would never be a first offered unless a team was sooo desperate. The GM would likely also be under the influence and had a gun to their head…

If we got a second I would take that and run. Based on what the league thinks his value is I would think minimum would be a third.

Looking through the list of highest scoring wingers you find that almost all of them play with elite linemates.

Such a dumb and lazy argument to discredit production by referencing their linemates.

You'll occasionally find a type like Kaprizov who can blow the doors off playing by themselves but it's really not that common.
