With a return to health on Defence (for now), and surprising depth from Benn, Mete, and Timmins. Development from Sandin and Liljegren, considering Holl is a UFA, what would you do?

To be clear this is a poll to get feedback on how you would handle a very enviable “problem “, and not a platform for some to push their Holl narrative (either Pro or Con).

A 1st well no shit.

A 2nd, ok a high one.

Anything lower unless it’s a combo of assets (like a 2nd and a 3rd), no.

But…

I also don’t want to see Dubas do exactly what I know he’s going to do and give him 4x3.5.

Problem is that Keefe hasn't given Liljegren enough of a chance to take over Holl's shutdown roll to see if he can handle it full time yet and I doubt we'll see it in the next couple weeks.

Obviously if a team gave up a 1st for Holl it would be tempting but as we are competing unless we can upgrade that spot at the same time I would be extremely weary of trading him.

Definitely for a first if someone offered it, but I don't understand the logic of trading Holl for the sake of it. Some people just refuse to see the value he brings as a player for whatever reason
If we have the room in the lineup, we should keep him for depth. In the playoffs teams always want more experienced depth dmen.

I'd only make that move if the cap dictated having to do so. I also wouldn't be happy to take less than a 2nd (or its equivalent in prospect) due to RHD often being a much sought after commodity, and due to the acquiring team obviously being a fellow contender. Have to worry about the offseason when that time comes and not when the player involved helps out during the here and now.

I'd only move him if an upgrade on D was coming back. Ideally someone that plays a much biger game but that can also be trusted in all situations.

Holl take a lot of shit on here. He's been pretty valuable for most of his tenure.

If a team offers a 1st you can maybe consider it.

Otherwise keeping him for defensive depth is much better than other options, considering the team is trying to be as compe

I’d trade him for an upgrade, but not a pick at this point. We are trying to win, not sell off assets. Now, a bottom five team offers their first round for him… ya, I’d trade him and use other assets to upgrade… but no team would do that.

Holl for a late 1st would be fine, just spend a 2nd or 3rd on a guy who can play bottom pair + PK and pocket the difference. Would also make spending our 1st on a big name rental sting a lot less.

I'd trade him for a 3rd or higher, but only if we had a trade for an upgrade, defensive RD partner for Rielly lined up and need the space.

Otherwise, he's valuable as at least a bottom pairing guy.

Management and coaching staff absolutely love Holl for some reason. It's like they owe him a blood debt.

I just dont see him coming out of the lineup even on his worst day, let alone getting traded

I would trade him for a 1st or 2nd and then use that draft pick to help acquire a Top 6 LW. 3rd or lower not worth it and need to keep him as depth.

Trade him in the off-season. You need at least 9-10 dmen in the playoffs and he plays better in the playoffs cause he can eat PK minutes.

It's because he can actually handle playing the toughest defensive matchups as long as he has a LD like Brodie/Muzzin/Gio with him. There is a reason this team did so well "despite" a Gio-Holl top pair for a stretch there.

To this point we do not have another RD capable of doing so, or having proven they can do so. Liljegren needs a long run to see if we were contemplating moving Holl but at this point I don't see Keefe switching their spots in the lineup.

A trade.for a player only occurs if a definite uograde comes back or a high pick that can be flipped for such an asset.

Due to Holls cap hit for the value he brings, coupled with Leafs cap space, it isn't going to happen. Dubas only hss so msny arrows, Holl isn't a liability to this team that would necessitate that he beraded.

Trade a soon to be UFA in the off-season?

Okay then keep him, if something happens we are going to need a defenseman anyways. He kills penalties, there’s no reason to trade Holl, especially given the injuries we’ve had this year. We are more than likely going to need him

Name a single cup winner's 10th D without googling it.

Kimmo Timmonen was Chicago’s 9th/10th dman, they had a bunch of injuries and had to play him that year they won the cup.

Tampa used a rotation of 9 defenseman as well which included Cal Foote and Luke Schenn

Pittsburgh also used 10 dmen in the playoffs too in 2016, rotation between Streit, Pouliot, Cole , Dumoulin

With the injuries this year, I don't see why you move Holl. If you are going to move someone, you move a defensive liability like Rielly. Holl is spotty, but cost controlled.
