Oh boy. Give up multiple picks for him, want him gone less than 10 games in. Would he clear waivers? Maybe, maybe not. Not many teams have that kind of cap space readily available. But no, I doubt he would clear. He's not some borderline NHL goalie.

Yes only due to that ugly contract. Not that he cant be worth 5mil in 2/3 years but I doubt any team would take on that deal for unproven goalie

Have you read the responses? People are still trying to digest how ridiculous it is that the question is even being asked.

Or I'm right, do you do anything other than point to consensus? Why even have a message board if counter points can't be argued?

Consensus irl btw, everywhere in Ontario fans are torching Andersen. I'm not the only one saying this by any stretch of the imagination...

- I get a lot of people are in denial of how awful that trade was/is but who else was him at 25 million?

- Would Vegas even take him?

Have you seen him play this year?

How long is this free pass?

Sure, but the fact that they are transitioning into a competitive means having the absolutely deplorable goaltending they have isn't going to work, look at calgary. I think they'd put up the 5mil cap figure considering they were paying Ward more than that since 06'. They'd take Andersen in a heart beat. Putting Andersen in front of Carolinas defense would actually work, considering Carolinas at very least has the ability to be a lot better than toronto's.

I think you missed his point, though, about already having 2 goalies signed through next season. We can't carry 3 goalies, nobody is trading for Ward or Lack, and I seriously doubt we bury one of those guys in the AHL. What are we supposed to do after we claim Andersen? Cut a guy off our active roster and roll with 3 goalies till the end of next season?

Not gonna comment on the OP but what the hell happened to Cam Ward ? The guy was solid couple of years ago.

Injuries ? Age ? Was never that good ? :dunno:

In his prime he was quite good, a game stealer. He was really never the same after hitting a rash of injuries, including an MCL, about 3 years ago. For a time his movement was visibly limited, and frankly I think he has struggled to stay sharp mentally. He's become prone to giving up soft goals and having flameout games.

I do kind of wonder what he would look like today if he hadn't played behind our trainwreck of a defense the past few years. If he had been supported a little better coming off those injury seasons, maybe he could have been disguised as a roughly average starter instead of exposed night after night.

Some Leafs fans actually kill me. It's like watching videos of Trump supporters.
Fixed for you.

Yeah, SOME Leafs fans are ridiculous, but every single fan base in every single sport has fans like that. Stop acting like it's a Toronto only thing. It's like me saying that all Canucks fans are idiotic, hooligan rioters. That work for you?

Want parallels.... Raycroft, Toskala, Bernier....
Just listing a bunch of former failed goalies doesn't mean much. Bernier actually was the furthest thing from a mistake for the Leafs, until he broke down mentally last year - after the season started with a Bronx cheer in his home opener. Leaf Nation definitely has a way to mess with a goalie's mental game. I don't think Andersen will be as fragile as Bernier turned out to be last year.

Sure teams wanted him before he had a massive contract.
He was a starter (co-)winning a Jennings Trophy. Any team had to know he was getting at least $4.5M. Lou went just a little higher and certainly a bit longer than I thought he would, but I don't see it as outrageous.

There is a parallel. Eddie Lack had almost identical numbers before being traded to Carolina. He's been far from the #1 that Canes fans had hoped for.
I did like Lack a fair bit, and was surprised to not see him play better, but as a goalie, I prefer to scout a goalie's strengths and weaknesses rather than go by numbers. And while I liked Lack, I don't believe he was in Andersen's league. I'd still have confidence in that.

How long is this free pass?

How long is the team in front of him going to play poor defense?

That's how long his free pass should be. Andersen is a solid goaltender. If you give him NHL level defense, he'll give you NHL level goaltending. You can scapegoat him all you want, but your problems won't go away by replacing him. You'll just have a new goaltender to blame for your problems.

So what other fanbase wants him at the contract....

Still waiting....

Plenty of teams would want Andersen just not through waivers at this point. It's a lot more than just simply picking up someone for free at this stage of the season. The cap is a real thing and nobody plans to pick up 5 mil in late October for nothing. Plenty of teams out there would be interested in trading for Andersen under the right circumstances but they'd need to have some salary go the other way to accommodate the figure.

Yes he'd clear but considering what they gave up it would be silly to send him down. Personally I would have kept the assets and picked up Scott Wedgewood from waivers for $587,500.

It's the same blueline as last year and the Leafs looked pretty good defensively. Letting in 7 goals on 17 shots and you hang it on the blueline?

He was traded for and gifted a contract to stabilize the youth, not the other way around.

I get other fans did but I never criticized Bernier because I saw him play amazing in his first year as a starter, Reimer ran hot and cold but was decent. I've never seen a worst performance than Andersen, he over plays every shot. It's not the blueline.
