Gormley is also just cut from the list (granted add the two prior its Ellis and Pietrangelo). Either way, a huge accomplishment for an 18-year-old 3rd round pick in his first WJC.

MVP and top forward, top D and top goalie were all 2020 draft picks. How often has that happened, in a tournament dominated by 19 year olds?

Very rarely. Although, it should be noted that Levi is a late birthday. And didn't Zegras win MVP (2018 pick). Weird year, where very few kids were held out, and pretty much the entire recent draft class played (outside of Lafreniere, a 19-year-old) played.

Correct on Zegras. Must be tired and missed him.

There's not a new sheriff in town. It's the same old Northern American hockey power. USA!!!

lol the Americans had nothing going for them in periods 2 & 3. Canada got no puck luck and Knight was incredible. Otherwise it would be a different game. Canada literally poured it on for two periods and dominated the pace of play

It’s too early to change the narrative. That was a dominating effort by the US. At no point after that 2nd goal did it look like Canada was going to beat them.

In terms of fan popularity and player participation, hockey is way behind football, baseball and soccer in the US and yet they consistently beat Canada in most age groups under 20.

Wtf are you talking about. There were a lot of close calls for Canada throughout the game. USA did not dominate in the 2nd and 3rd. They were on their heels the entire two periods. Go back and look at the zone time. I don’t even think the US got 3-5 minutes of sustained offensive zone time in the 2nd and 3rd.

USA played a great defensive game to block shots and clog up the lane at times but they really had nothing going after scoring early.

crazy 1/2 combination. But I assume one will be traded eventually
Yeah....I'm thinking the same. I mean there's also the possibility that Levi doesn't go very far in his career, but his poise looks too good for a one-hit wonder. Florida also has Lundell. Not bad.

A few more thoughts:

Zegras is looking good! Kinda bummed that he's going to Anaheim. They're going to suck for a long time. Or am I wrong about that?

Buffalo finally have someone who can keep up with Eichel: Cozens.

Even though Byfield wasn't great this time around, LA still has Kaliyev, Turcotte, Faber, Kupari, Spence, Clague, and Vilardi in their system. Give them a few more years and they will be a powerhouse.

I was talking about the game last...it’s still too early to change tge narrative.

I think we should change the narrative of the US being the underdog, though. They use that as fuel, but that tank needs to emptied since they haven’t lost a gold to Canada since 1997.
