Is anyone else a bit relieved we didnt end up with Askarov?

Obviously there shouldnt be too much emphasis placed on such a small sample size but he looks terrible. His rebound control, or lack there of, is driving me crazy. These pre-draft elite goalies usually dominate this tourney.

Russia wasn't going to win anyway, but Askarov being useless and Podkolzin taking a dumb penalty isn't doing them any favors

No he'll still be great. Vasilevsky and Markstrom got lit up a few times as well in this tournament.

I just find that his fundamental skills just arent good enough. Seems like he is pretty poor at tracking the puck and bad at minimizing rebounds.

Agreed. He is clearly athletic and is good at reacting, but he cant track the puck well enough to get into position.

looks good but the beaver tail drives me nuts. Unless there are different dialects in Russia that would make things hard. He does it all the time

I've watched more than this game. Just in general havent been all that impressed by Askarov.

James Askarov Reimer was terrible one time for giving up rebounds. He got getter at it. Askarov can too. He won’t be back after intermission probably

I've watched more than this game. Just in general havent been all that impressed by Askarov.

I mean i wouldn't use this tournament as a benchmark for a good goalie. Remember Justin Pogge? Askarov will be fine once he isn't playing in front of such an inexperienced defense.

You can't catch right and have a weak glove hand, LHS will eat you alive. At least in NA, you can expect that they played baseball and can catch right, not so sure about Russia...

Askarov looks a lot like Sparks atm. Just very loud in his crease.
