Germany played against Canada yesterday perhaps a little tired and discouraged?

Like the Russians scheduled Canada - USofA the day before they play Canada.

It's not like they weren't expecting something like this. For the team to completely bail on the goalie is pretty bad.

Also, I like the way Finland played yesterday. Total team effort, and the shared the load pretty well.

Canada looked great up front, but I wasn't impressed with the defense so much. Can't stand Murphy or Hamilton, and hope Steve Spott is never considered for this position again. Awful coach for this tournament.

The Anericans look great. Physical and skilled.

After yesterday's display against the Slovaks, i really don't think they're a big favourite. They more than human. I think they get up-ended.

I'll reserve my judgement of the Swedes until i actually see them.

Oh, it's been like a month, and I STILL can't edit posts...

The Russians look human, I meant, and I think they bow out early.

Galchenyuk is just heads and tails above most guys, kid has played dynamite.

I said the exact same thing the other day and that I would easily take him over Rielly and Interacif freaked.

Montreal got one heck of a player.

Also, keep in mind, the reason the US looks more structured, is because they've either played together or are playing together with the USNDTP, in the case of a lot of these kids. They SHOULD have an easier time getting organized early on in the tourney.

Can't write anyone off early. We haven't seen anyone's best.

I love Morgan, still would've taken Gally.

He's an impact center. A goal scoring machine. Excellent playmaker, and a leader. He leads by example.

It's a shame you're only allowed to pick players who are still available when your turn comes.

The original argument is in regards to Craig Buttons top 30 ranked prospects and ranking Rielly ahead of Gally.

Perhaps he is better a Left winger than Center, since this is where he played today against Germany. :sarcasm:

The way USA played today, they could have been led by Elmo, and would have won. Still great seeing Jones get an A on his chest over Gally. Housley and co know who the true leaders are on Team USA.

Seth Jones > Mackinnon

Man this kid is going to be a beast in a few years.

Seth Jones > Barkov too. I was high on Seth before this tournament, my impressions of watching him today have not not swayed my belief that he will be the most impactful player of this draft.

I thought you had Finland winning gold a few days ago, now you want to reserve judgement after seeing the USA play? Come on man, I offered to make you a friendly bet the other day, now you are wishy washy on the Finns chances? A prediction doesn't mean anything when you named half the teams in the tournament. Way to hedge. I told you the Finns are not the favorites based on a few pre tourney games, I told you I liked other team's chances, don't break an ankle falling off the Finnish Barkov bandwagon Ernie my pal.

I NEVER said the Finns were going to win it all. I said they had a good chance with the talent and chemistry they have, and that they're not out of the conversation by any means.

It's early in the tournament, and no team has played their best hockey yet.

Fall off the bandwagon? I'm not like you, you see. I don't hop on a bandwagon, or in a prospect's lap after one bloody game, saying they'll be the best thing since sliced bread, after one game against Germany. I've always liked the Finns, since I was young, as I like the way they play the game. I hope they do well internationally, regardless of whether or not they have a potential 1st overall playing for them.

Gotta love the Gally hate, still. He's everything you said he wouldn't be, and more. And it eats at your soul. It's hillarious. The comment about the captaincy just shows the vendetta against an 18yr old kid is personal, which is quite pathetic.

Right now, we see a lot more of Jones than MacKinnon because Jones plays in a role for the US that allows him more Ice. MacKinnon is a 17yr old playing on an extremely deep, veteran laden forward group.

MacK is still #1 to me, and the battle for 2,3, and 4 are being waged over the next week and a half. This tournament isn't the be-all, but it should provide a good look.

I liked Jones' game today. Looked strong with or without the puck, solid skater, and a heady rearguard. I hope he keeps it up.

If you can't extrapolate that I was speaking about a situation where we had a choice, I can't help you.

But hey, take any chance to be clown you can. With the constructive nature of that post, you should certainly post more, this board doesn't have enough sarcastic, *******s.

He's got a great shot, he has good skills, actually the entire line of Kuraly and Barber looked good, give them all credit. When the checking gets tighter, I expect the Gaudreau, Miller, Grimaldi
line to assert themselves to perhaps rise to the top when games get more important. Jones and Trouba achoring the blueline, and Gibson in net. The USA look better for a gold medal chance than Canada has.

Who do you like right now? It certainly looked like you were overreacting to the Finns showing against a Team Canada that was playing at probably 65% of their potential.

He played 1 good game against the Germans, as a winger not a Center. I give him credit for this, infact he seems to be more impactful as a winger.

Bothers you much that Jones is starting to make a legitimate case that he is better than Mackinnon or Barkov?

The players on the Canadian squad aren't asfamiliar with one another as the Americans are. I expect the US to look good early. Canada should grow and gather momentum as the tournament goes forward.

After one game, which means nothing, i have it:
1. USA
2. Canada
3. Finland
4. Sweden
5. Russia

In terms of power rankings. The Russians had NO BUSINESS struggling against the Slovaks, despite solid games by Khoklachev, Grigorenko, and Yakupov.

Finland and Sweden both looked good, and I gave Finland the nod at 3 because in a opening game where both squads played well, Finland simply scored more.

The US looked like they should have, against a poor German team, and the separation between Canada and the Yanks comes down to 2 factors, in my book: Coaching and Goaltending. I don't think Subban is that good, Gibson is just better. And what needs to be said about Spott? Playing the top-6 ad naseum with the game WELL in hand, wasting an opportunity to get confidence for MacK and Drouin, and the other two lines. His obsession with Ryan Murphy, who is a twit out there. Puck hogging, skating around the zone with the puck like he's the only guy on the ice... Truly not confident in Spott being the guy, and canonly hope for the best at this point.

Can you just spit it out, make a prediction, commit, it won't kill ya. There are fence sitters and then there's you Ernie.

Naming 5 teams...OMG

And mods, this is on topic with the WJHC and Ernie and I are pals, no need to overreact and moderate here.
