Rielly has yet to be on the ice for a goal against in this tourney, I think he was a +1 today as well. He fanned on that pass early, but the puck looked like it was bouncing on everyone today...

Rielly needs to be on that top PP unit IMHO. How many games do we have to with Murphy getting zero, yes ZERO points with every chance to succeed.

Is he still at zero points? Even with the crazy minutes he gets on the 1st PP unit and the top pairing and after we hammered Germany and Slovakia

How is he even on the team :biglaugh:

I know right? He still has 0 points, same as Olli Maata on Finland which surprises me.

Again people are putting too much stock into WJC play.

Chill.
its too bad the wjc has become almost exclusively a chance for wannabe scouts to watch their nhl team's prospects.

its not about the tournament itself anymore. its about everyone judging future nhlers (or non-nhlers).

its not about canadian fans cheering for canada. its more about taking great delight in seeing a kid like murphy not playing well because he's not attached to the leafs.

I agree with the earlier poster who said people need to chill. Sure these tournaments are important for scouts to see how top prospects play against top level competition but it shouldnt be someones sole scouting avenue. I have been impressed with all 3 of Jones, Barkov and Mackinnon even tho they havent done much (and in Jones's case played 2 bad games) and its because I see tons of skillset and projectability in all 3. All 3 look like guys who will need some development time but all 3 should turn into really good players. I hadnt seen much of Barkov but I can see why scouts are so high on him......Big, smooth skater, good hands, good hockeysense and plays C. He reminds me so much of Kopitar with what looks like a frame to became even bigger.

The World Juniors is an important factor in evaluating talent of future prospects and NHL players, that a long with prospect games, pre tourney's and CJHL playoff games. The too much stock into it refrain is cute but we all know these games count a lot if public perception and scouts opinions.

Certainly you do not say a Fri night CJHL game is just as important, they are a very important component in player evaluation as evidenced by viewership and how many scouts attend this tournament year in year out.

But yes, they certainly not the only means if this is one means by the 'too much stock' comment. But they carry weight in the evaluation of prospects and players, more weight than any other tournament of it's kind due to the competition factor of these kids playing for their countries and against their own peers they might not meet in the regular season.

Beat me to it by a min. Yep they sure are. I doubt many would get up at 4am to watch Sarnia vs. Windsor in the OHL.

Morgan Rielly 1g 4pts, +5, 13 shots
Xavier Ouellet 1g 3pts, +1, 13 shots
Dougie Hamilton 1g 2pts, +3, 9 shots
Tyler Wotherspoon 1g 2pts, +3, 3 shots
Griffin Reinhart 0g 1pt, +2, 1 shot
Ryan Murphy 0g 0pts, +2, 14 shots

the thing i did notice about Rielly the last couple games, he doesnt always use his speed when he should. he kinda coasts around and then all of a sudden out of nowhere hes flying down the ice. he needs to use that all the time and not just once or twice a game. he does make some great plays. but He does need to stay in junior tho, you can tell hes not overly confident out there yet, and to me he didnt look pro ready. not like a player like Trouba does. not there yet.

Morgan Rielly 1g 4pts, +5, 13 shots C+
Xavier Ouellet 1g 3pts, +1, 13 shots A+
Dougie Hamilton 1g 2pts, +3, 9 shots B+
Tyler Wotherspoon 1g 2pts, +3, 3 shots B
Griffin Reinhart 0g 1pt, +2, 1 shot B+
Ryan Murphy 0g 0pts, +2, 14 shots C-

Defensively, my stats.

And if Harrington was included in your point totals, he too would be a A+ like Ouelett

Trouba has played awesome.
I cant believe how many people outraged last offseason when I said I wouldnt be one bit upset if we took him at #5. Rielly was a awesome pick and I would prolly rather him over Trouba but it just goes to show how important projectability is when evaluation prospects.

These stats aren't updated, because those were Rielly's stats before the game against Slovakia in which he scored a goal and had two assists. He has 7 points, 2 goals and 5 assists.

Go home Brody, you're drunk

I agree. he looked like he was a pro out there playing with boys. was all over the ice. and scoring. the jets got a good pick there. its not going to be long for him at all.

You're absolutely within your right to hand out grades based on your opinion and I welcome it because it generates discussion - and I'm always up for a good discussion - but grades aren't stats.

Trouba has been awesome. I have a soft spot for the type of defenseman Rielly is and I'm quite pleased with our pick but the Jets should be pretty thrilled at what they're seeing.

Not sure how I missed Harrington.

Morgan Rielly 1g 4pts, +5, 13 shots

That's interesting debate I've thought about a bit.

Barkov seems like the obvious, But he's underwhelmed me to be honest to the point where I'm sort of concerned on how he'll adapt to NHL. Nickushkin on the other hand amazes me every time I see him. His first few strides and his speed for big kid are breathtaking.

The only worry I had was hockey sense and vision, But as I've seen him a bit more I'm less worried. He made very smart pass just before he ran Wotherspoon into boards.

A little bit of good, And a little bot of bad. But a lot of potential.

Agreed, nuchishkin is one of those rare players that you pick in the top 5 but is still a project pick. I dont think his iq is bad, I just think he is used to being a puck hog (I read he usually used to score 5/6 goals a game in the minors). It will take some time but I think he will probably develop that awareness in the khl. Its just his power game is so good.. He has elite size and elite skating which is lethal. But unlike other players (i.e. blake wheeler), he actually uses both to his advantage all the time. He has great hands and a great shot ... He has a fairly consistent effort level too.

However, nuchushkin is very strong on the russian factor... I read somewhere that before he even thinks about coming to the nhl, he wants to win the gragarin cup. He may change his mind, but that worries me.

Nothing wrong with his development time being in KHL instead of AHL.

I hear you, people are so fixated with points, they will misdirect, throw mud on the wall by lumping a stats discussion into a true hockey discussion of a worth of a player. I don't need to compare Alex Semin's 40 goals to Toews 30 to know Toews is 10x the player Semin is.

Jenner was a key player today, he is to a lesser degree a Mike Richards maybe. Maybe the Kane and Gally fans will brighten up and realize evaluating hockey players is not a simple task of posting stats from hockey db.

Funny, because that's all you do with discussions about Grabo.

Of course... but how long will it take him to win the cup? And if he does, will he be comfortable enough to move to canada afterwards? What if he has a family or just really likes russia?
