It helps when you're 24 years old. :sarcasm:

Some of those 19 years old players look 29, but that's no different than going to a high school grad. I've been to my kids the past few years and they can look 10 years different. Maybe the older looking ones are from Russia? And Kessel is from Neverland.

Makes me sick. What a garbage draft we had.

Could of had puempel, rattle, Gibson, Jenner, Jurco, jaskin, etc

Not that his job is to score, but only a couple of these guys are out scoring Biggs. Rattie is a 2nd line NHL scorer if he's lucky. Puempel to. Jurco and Jaskin are crap. Jenner is looking like a better pick for sure, but again, as some of you guys with board experience have heard a million times, you can't measure these guys until their 5-7 years into their NHL career. Biggs will be important to whatever team he plays on and that importance will be measured in ways other then scoring.

He brings so much of what we need right now. PK, forechecking, aggressive tough style that is more then 4-5 mins a game. Worst case scenario he is a 3rd line enforcer. A rare breed. Best case scenario he is a 40-45 pt wrecking ball. Keeping defenseman on their toes and NHL regulars honest in their dirty play.

Biggs breed is the future of NHL enforcers. Real heavyweights like Orr and Boogaard aren't going to be a part of the game if they can't take a regular shift. Fighting skill will have to be secondary to some other attribute.

In time guys like Aulie(minute eating depth D), Biggs(3rd line grinder, depth scorer), Lucic(top6 PF), Luke Schenn(Defensive D) will be part time enforcers. Teams would be better to carry 2 or 3 guys that can handle themselves and bring other more important attributes other then fighting.

Schenn better start taking boxing lessons to make that list.
Fighting not one of his strengths.

I wanted Puempel and Gibson. I was fine with the Biggs pick and still am. I think he will become a fan favourite. I like Percy, but he's nothing special. I'd definitely take guys like Gibson and Jenner over him. Wanted Gibson in 2011 and one of Vasilevski or Subban in 2012. Maybe we'll draft a great goalie prospect next draft. Not going to get my hopes up though.

never loved the Biggs pick, was ok with the Percy pick.....but while guys like rattie and jenner are interesting, bringing up names like puempel or jurco doesn't make me feel any regret.

I was okay with Biggs, but together Biggs and Percy underwhelmed me.

I wanted a shot at the fenses with one of the picks, and they both seem like whatever picks. Lower ceiling picks, with a fair chance of seeing time.

Biggs had a very strong game today, he was more valuable to the USA team today with 5 penalty kills playing on the USA number 1 PK unit with Troechek than Gally was, just to use this reference point since Gally is always highly regarded around here, Biggs was even dangerous with at least 3 great chances to score.

He Played a team orientated, responsible 2 way game. Nothing about his last 2 games to be disappointed about. When he gets to the NHL and plays a NA style. He's not Cam Neely or Rick Toccett. He may not even be Lucic, but given this format of finesse hockey, where breathing on an opposing player may draw a major. He has played well and will play even better in the NHL. Nothing to worry about, unless you are expecting him to score 30 a year and wrack of 200 mins in penalties.

He had good chances today, disappointing that he didn't show the ability to finish any.

Just a piece from someone in the know.

Thought it was a little ridiculous that peoe kept making the argument about Rielly, his TOI, and situations he's used, but completely dismiss it when it's someone they don't like...

"Last year there was a solid argument that Galchenyuk was the most skilled player in the draft, and that same argument could apply to the WJC. He is dangerous every time he steps on the ice and has put up points, but many expected him to dominate every shift and that has not happened. Nevertheless, for me, he has been one of the tourney's best."

That's from Grant Sonier.

Also, seems to me the US fans are tired of Housley mis-using him on the wing, and not playing him with proper linemates. Geimaldi should take a seat. Looks like bloody Murphy out there.

I think we're a better squad, top to bottom, than the US. If we limit their PP time, and ay a controlled, responsible game, we should win this easily.

How many here wish we had Grigorenko over Rielly at this point? I am seeing them as equals in terms of prospect status, but we all know our positional needs...

I don't think it is fair to base a decision on this tournament though. Rielly isn't as important to the Canadians as Grigorenko is to the Russians. Grigorenko is who I wanted, and based on this tournament nothing, obviously, has changed my opinion there.

I hope Rielly achieves the pre-tournament hype and then I'll be thrilled with him.

Canada can roll 3 first lines in the CJHL with Jenner back in the lineup.

We can also roll 3 defensive first pairings in most junior leagues. Subban is playing like a #1 pick, I expect Canada to win, but the wildcards are if Gibson plays out of his skin, the refs call it slanted towards the USA's side and the US players have the game of their lives.

All things considered I am confident in Canada prevailing this year. When Boone Jenner is your #3C and not only is he an excellent 2 way player but he is a dominant OHL'er this year with 20+ goals prior to leaving for Russia to co lead the OHL, all you have to have is one of the top 3 lines have a good game.

Canada has too much fire power, now saying that I wouldn't be surprised if the USA make this close and may even win, but Canada right now has too much going for them. Only Subban can beat Canada if he has an off game.

Based on this tournament I would take Grigorenko over Gally, and Rielly over Yakupov.

Yakupov and Jones are both October born players, so both within a month of being drafted a year earlier. Kind of like Tavares who was like a week out.

OTOH, Granberg August 27th. and Nilsson August 19th. being on the side of the cut-off.

Don't forget Ryan Murray was born on Sept 27, 1994. That's off the top of my head, let's see if I was close.
