Yes it does, since Finland has scored 11 goals and let in only the 4 in this game.

I wish they had played a proper OT to break it instead :) That game was almost worth it.

Popularity of hockey in USA has everything to do with this argument.

WHAT? :dunno:

NHL is the best league in the world regardless if hockey is the #1 sport in U.S.

Grow up, you are starting to remind of the guy who pumped gas into my car yeasterday; he had a tattoo on his neck saying "Death to All Capitalist Scum"... :lol

What a tool.

I just think that the league would be better off in a country where they'd focus more on passion than on money. Look at how good hockey the teams that build on passion but have little money play, and imagine if you had all the talent that was in the NHL today, playing with fire in their hearts, game after game after game.

Entertaining, but not a very good game. Very sloppy and flegmatic play in the defensive zone. Sweden was able cycle the puck all day long. I say we (finland) were lucky to get a draw from this one.

Matti, don't be so idealistic. Money is money, nothing more. As long as it doesn't affect the play on ice i don't see the problem.

You are living in a fantasy world my friend. ALL hockey players are motivated by money to some degree, there is no doubt about it.

U.S.A. is a huge market, hence the precense in U.S. These are simple laws of economics; which by the way have everyting to do with pro-sports in EVERY country.

PS. As far as I remember Canada still has NHL teams.

Money does affect the play on ice. When high-paid athletes hold out for even more fantastic money instead of playing and when players choose teams where they know they have no future just to get some more money instead of choosing the team where they'd be a big part and become a better hockey player, it hurts the sport of ice hockey.

So you would rather have the best hockey played in Moncton, Thunder Bay and Barrie in front of 5000 fans than in New York, Chicago and LA? And the players getting paid one tenth of what they're making now? And you being able to follow that league one tenth of the exposure than now?

Do you think Lehtinen isn't playing with fire in Dallas but would be better off in Barrie? He'd play more intense in a small town and small arena than in a major metropolis and a capacity crowd of 20k?

Correct me if i`m wrong but if Russia comes in first in the NA group wont they be on Swedens "side" of the playoffs and Canada on the finnish "side" ?

If the NHL is gonna be driven by money, the canadian teams will need help. If there's no hard cap I'd rather see the league shut down than make itself look like a place for gold digging holdouts to get money for doing nothing and see our best players playing in their home leagues instead.

That could actually happen the way the Russians are playing.. A Canada - USA quarter final? Wouldn't that be a bummer for the NHL ;)

no.. no.. there is the game of ice hockey and then there are the other areas of life.. like economy etc. Ice hockey needs money like any other activity and has to work under the same rules.

Its not a really fair tournament. Its designed by NHL for USA/Canada to win... Anyone who dispute that, isn´t fair.

Nobody said it was fair. The World cup is designed for one purpose only and that is to showcase hockey to the americans with hopefully a north american team to show their supremacy in the end. They should play the final on Iceland so that both teams get equal jet-lagg ;)

I think I'll call it a night. You have not answered a lot of my questions and just keep changing the subject, post by post. If you would just come out and say that you dislike Americans and that's all this is, we wouldn't have to argue about any of this.

So when are star players play in Europe they're our best and finest, when in the US they're gold diggers... riiiiight.

Only problem with your theory is. if this tourney was designed to showcase hockey to the Americans, wouldn't you think it would have it's best and most exciting games telecast on US TV?

This weekend's games are not even on US TV.

Then it's the NHL's fault for scheduling the WC during the first week of college football, besides 16/20 games being televised isn't bad.

Hockey just isn't that high on the totem pole in the US.
