Pretty good game, entertaining to watch, not much of the boring trap (1-3-1 in Sweden) style game. If Sweden plays like this against the Czechs I'm sure they can beat them pretty easily, if they play as physical and aggressive as in this game (well not the first half of the first period).

The best tournament is the ones that have international value and has influence on the countries world ranking.
Wtf is a world ranking? Yes yes, I know what it is. But what do you think; would any of the players competing in this tournament rather win the World Cup or a World Championship? No doubt about that answer...

And how do you justify saying this is a money grab when the WC's are ten times the money grab compared to this?

This is very off topic but Isaksson is quite possibly the best keeper in the world right now.
:lol

Make a thread about it in the other sports board :D

Off the top of my head I see the following ahead of him, in no particular order:

Cech
Cañizares
Casillas
Lehmann
Kahn
Rüstü
Niemi
Barthez (and no, I don't like him)

And then a whole lot of other guys.

Did anyone catch Hardy's (or Tellan's or Dahlén's or L-G Jansson's) comments after the match regarding netminding? Does it appear like they will continue with Tellqvist, or what?

Since on the contrary to the world championships, this tournament fills no real purpose. I for one would like to see the world champs moved to when the NHL playoffs are over.

Hardy was asked the question but did not reveal anything, like usual.
Hardy sure has a problem dealing with the media :)

The good:
Sundins line: 17 pts in three games
The PP
Lidström, Holmström, Öhlund played very well
Forsberg also played better although far from 100%
After Finlands 4th goal Tellqvist looked very good, almost 0 rebounds and several very good saves

The Bad:
5 on 5 play
Kim Johnson, dont understand why he does so many mistakes
Markus "Mr. Invisible" Näslund
Hardy - Stop messing up the defense pairings, and scratching Rags WHY??

Matti- With all due respect, I think you are stretching here.

Let's ask the players which tournament they value the best. Im a Finn living in U.S.A... NHL is the TOP league in the world, and for what it's worth I value this tournament higher then Winter Olympics.

Well, I'm not going to start debating Isaksson here, so this will be my only reply but none in this list is in my opinion clearly ahead of him - in fact some (Niemi, Barthez) are clearly worse. A decent case could however be made that Cech and Buffon are better - though not by far.

The NHL is also a league run mostly because of monetary reasons. If the league was solely, or at least mostly in a country dedicated to hockey I'd have much more respect in it, but it is currently in a country where it is the 4th sport AT BEST, and from that one can understand that it isn't passion and interest for the sport that is running the league.

Finnish/Swedish fans
check out the Northern Board.. oh yes... I forgot.. there is no (real) Northern Board anymore at hfboards!! woho :)

Well what is the purpose of any tournament, whether it's called a Cup or a Championship? I would think it's to find out who's the best country when it comes to hockey? I for one think that handing out a title for the "best" would mean that the best players would be involved.

The WC's in July... sounds like a fabulous idea... That would mean _none_ of the world's best players would be involved and all the fans would be sick of hockey by then...

As to the money grabbing; am I correct in assuming your logic as such:
World Cup is a money grab => it has no purpose => WC a money grab
WC's have a purpose (world rankings, woohoo!) => not a money grab despite all the evidence to the contrary => WC's have a purpose

Nice circle logic there mattihp...

I forgot about Buffon. And Isaksson isn't even close to one of Premier League's best keepers in Niemi. When Isaksson has even gotten consideration for golden gloves in one of the five best leagues in the world I'd consider him surpassed Niemi.

What the f**k does the popularity of hockey in U.S.A. have anything to do with this argument?

I smell sour grapes.

I don't feel like reading through 23 pages of posts(incase my question has been brought up before) so does the tie give finland firstplace? I figure first tie breaker is head to head, second would be goals for-goals against

Yes it does, since Finland has scored 11 goals and let in only the 4 in this game.
