Herdman gotta go.

Thank you for bringing us this far, but if we want to reach another level, we need a next level manager. He has been a good cheerleader/recruiter, now, we need a real tactician with credibility to continue the job.

And, obviously, better development, especially defenders and midfielders.

I give him flack for sticking with Atiba and grossly mishandling the Croatia game; however the issue is we have 1-2 good players and a cast that are MLS quality guys. Player development would need a total revamp of the system from age 5 and onwards, and would require mass funding from many levels of government. It's not going to happen. I just urge anyone here to watch a U13 game anywhere in our country, and you will be speechless about how awful the quality of football is. It's no wonder our U17 and U20 teams perpetually suck.

Not even sure if a guy like Ancelotti would make a difference today...

I do think this is an attractive national team job for the next guy though. Things will be looking up for Canada
Attractive to whom? Is there a Canadian coach who could be a legit candidate? I think internationally it's still a backwater where the pool is your local guys and the European 'globetrotter' types who specialize in managing smaller teams overseas.

Mertens has had two excellent chances, should have at least one goal by now.

Croatia hasn't created much either but their passing and movement just look way better.

I mean, they will be able to aim higher than Herdman. People will want that job. It’s in them to make the right hire but it’s a very good international job.

It’s a good country, they are co-hosting the next World Cup, they are at least arguably the best team in CONCACAF and their talent will be in its prime next cycle. I’d sign up for that

From what I gather this is Herdman's first job in men's football, so yeah you should be able to get a guy who's coached a team before.

Sure, but when they hired Herdman that was the best that they could get. The ceiling is a lot higher now

I think the biggest hesitation for a new manager would be lack of top end talent in midfield and the backline. They've got a really good young crop of attackers (at least for their "level"), but it'll always be a challenge to make that midfield and defensive line work well against decent teams outside of CONCACAF.

The limitation is that in-between the World Cups you're basically in 'terra incognito', so that's a black hole in your CV if you plan to get a job in the European club game in the future. No-one in England or Spain cares what your team does playing in Trinidad or Nicaragua.

You are not the only one, but others keep saying this.

USA and Mexico are better quality sides. We have sexier attacking options, but the team as a whole is a tier below those teams.
