Bro, come on. Imagine in hockey, we (Croatia) qualified for the Olympics for the first time, lost in a decent game vs Czech Republic, but our coach said "we belong, gonna F Canada up". Not just said it, repeated it btw.
The proceeded to get dominated and lose like 7-1.

Honestly? I would have laughed it off prior to puck drop and have a little fun after the final buzzer.

I don’t think the more serious Canadian supporters took his comments literal anyway.

Except that's exactly what I mean within the context that I intended. I was referring to the general strength of Canada's squad, in that they need more higher level European-standard players ("top"). You think I'm claiming something about those players I mentioned that I'm not. If you still don't understand what I mean, that's your problem. Not going to haggle over semantics.
Okay i see, in Europe "top players" are the ones that play for the big teams like Barcelona, Liverpool etc. but i understand what you mean.

I'll be honest, we need a Canada win vs Morocco in case we lose to Belgium, but I don't see it - Morocco is a much more serious side.
You inadvertently demonstrated why it’s ridiculous to be so up in arms over the comment. If your equivalent scenario happened I might have a modest chuckle at the earnestness of the (in this imaginative scenario) Croatian comments and be happy they’ve embraced the sport and are amped up to hopefully make a good account of themselves in the tournament.

To still be salty over this even post game borders on the absurd lol.

Maybe the Canadian coach shouldn’t open up his mouth next time and show some respect to your opponent. Croatia gave Canada a footballing lesson today.

Canada looked off today, making so many dumb passes and so many brainfart defending mistakes, they certainly made Croatia's job so much easier than it needed to be.

Herdman is an idiot for not letting David take that first PK against Belgium and for talking trash and putting unnecessary pressure on his own team and giving unnecessary motivation to Croatia.

In this scenario I would be embarrassed for Canadian hockey team (the Croatian football equivalent your scenario) that they would even dignify the comments.

To make comments in the post game and taunt against a minnow nation is just childish behaviour lol

gives loser and unconfident energy like they were scared of being embarrassed

Worst team we played at WC since Jamaica. Herdman didn't even have the guts to shake Dalic's hand after the game
We were just channeling our game 1 Summit Series energy there. Herdman is trying to create a new mentality while also being respectful of our traditions of course.

Canadian media were cocky since the draw to be honest, I get the excitement but some of the comments about Croatia were over the top, it’s just the reality Croatia will rarely get any respect despite having more medals in the last 20-25 years than most “bigger” nations. Just look at how many people on this side of the pond picked Canada to get out the group…

Forgive them for their excitement; they're not as well-versed in world football.
The same disrespect is flung towards North African teams.

Just to add on, yes comments like those do tend to motivate Croatia, look at the aftermath of the 2018 win over England, Modric, Vrsaljko publicly called out the English media for their disrespect, ESPNFC of course laughed it off but they do pay attention to these things

Croatia is a very good footballing nation and nobody taking them seriously shows a severe lack of basic football knowledge. I would probably give a good part of the Canadian media to them being noobs and clearly not having that basic knowledge. The Balkan region is probably the most underrated region on the planet along with western Africa when it comes to football. They constantly produce brilliant players throughout Europe's top leagues, especially for Serie A. Bosnia, Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and North Macedonia would all beat Canada too. The one I am unsure about is Slovenia, but Canada wouldn't be scoring on Oblak that's for sure.

Haha, the shitstorm that would cause.

Anyhow this one is in the books and on to the next one. If Croatia can match this effort and carry it into the game on Thursday, they will get a positive result versus the Belgians. Win the group and don’t be satisfied with anything less.

Canada will definitely compete with the Morrocans and i think they have an opportunity to grab a point. The Moroccans are very well organized and play a solid team game. It will be an interesting game.

Those people were stupid. I would have been satisfied with one goal (done), and really happy with at least one point (still possible).

Not shaking hands is completely gutless fwiw. I can see why someone would be mad about that.
I'm starting to dislike Herdman. He used to be cool and he's certainly helped turn the team in the right direction, but his behaviour in this World Cup and how he's handled team Canada itself in this World Cup has been bizarre. Not using David for the PK against Belgium was mind boggling, then putting unnecessary pressure on Canada while simultaneously giving Croatia extra motivation through his moronic disrespectful comments were really stupid things for him to do.
