They have one top player and David who is a quality striker. Football is the number one sport in the world and it's like what, sport number 3 in Canada? Realistically Canada will never have a chance, USA is much bigger country and they have zero players that would fit to say Spanish, French or Portuguese teams.

Youth football academies in the top European countries are much like basketball programs in the States. But it's been nice to see Canada playing, first game especially was amazing. I wish USA and Canada would have their own powerhouse teams so World Cup would be even more interesting, but it's not looking good. France and Spain have like 5 Pulisic tier players per age group. Tough to battle against that.
Davies, David, Eustaquio and Buchanan are all top players. When I say 'top players' I don't necessarily mean elite or world class.

There's something seriously wrong with the FIFA ranking system when Belgium is perched at the top for a couple of years before dropping to #2 just before the WC.

Outplayed by the #41 team, lost to the #22 team. This isn't just a "tournament" thing.

We'll never know if what was said did this or that, the gulf of talent (especially in midfield) and experience between the two sides was such that this is pretty much what I expected.

This is on par with France-Australia or Brazil-Cameroon as far as mismatches go.

What's crazy is the US do not have players anywhere near as good as Davies and David. Just odd how these things turn out at times.

Eustaquio and Buchanan are not even close to top players, by any means. Danish Skov Olsen who also play for Brugge, is better than Buchanan and nobody would ever call him a top player.

I don't think you understand the real difference of top player and even decent player.

Davies and David are indeed better than any US player. Hopefully they can produce more of these type of a guys and it becomes sustainable. Often times some certain countries have a very good batch of players and then they disappear. It's all about the academies in Canada and North America, not everyone can move to Europe for good academies.

Buddy I'm not some clueless Canadian bandwagoner who doesn't understand the sport. Eustaquio and Buchanan are starters for good CL teams. You're being needlessly anal about a general description.

It doesn't make you a top player seriously. With that logic every premier league team's starting eleven are top players which is not true. There would be like close to 1000 top players in this world which doesn't sound right doesn't it.

That's some childish shit coming from Croatia.
As opposed to Herdman's professionalism? I told you guys this was going to happen.

Lost in all this talk is how could he even imagine to play a 2-man midfield (one of which is 39 and the other half-injured) against that midfield 3 of Croatia? Kone starting instead of Larin/David and they MIGHT have a had a chance of not losing so badly. Herdman showing his lack of experience at this WC.

Agree...15 min in and you knew Kone over Atiba was a move that needed to happen asap.

Herdman is a rookie mens NT coach. Hopefully he learns from this WC.

Except that's exactly what I mean within the context that I intended. I was referring to the general strength of Canada's squad, in that they need more higher level European-standard players ("top"). You think I'm claiming something about those players I mentioned that I'm not. If you still don't understand what I mean, that's your problem. Not going to haggle over semantics.

I imagine Herdman now in Canada has an aura about him, and rightfully so, after qualifying you guys to the WC in the manner he did and making you play rather beautiful football, but not starting 3 in the middle today against Croatia was mindblowing for me. The 2 defenders (even though Miller looked bad in both games) also look like they're better suited to play in a back 3 unfortunately, but today he did neither. the 4-4-2 was the worst possible combination. It doesn't help that David's been completely MIA these 2 games, very disappointed in him. Had he played to his potential you're getting a result against Belgium.

congratulations on meeting expectations to beat the 41st ranked team in the world at the world cup
Bro, come on. Imagine in hockey, we (Croatia) qualified for the Olympics for the first time, lost in a decent game vs Czech Republic, but our coach said "we belong, gonna F Canada up". Not just said it, repeated it btw.
The proceeded to get dominated and lose like 7-1.

I'll be honest, we need a Canada win vs Morocco in case we lose to Belgium, but I don't see it - Morocco is a much more serious side.
