Too early for Canada. They have some top players but their midfield and especially defence is just took weak.

Shame that Canada will go home early. They have been better than others. Too much over reliance on Hutchinson. More experiences Croatia team was able to work them out. Good building block for 2026 though. They have nothing to be ashamed of

Canada needs more experience; they need to continue to develop - maybe they'll be ready to enter knockout stages by 2030

They weren't that far off it this year. If they convert the pen in the first game there's a decent chance they're sitting at 3 points now with a "win and move on" game coming up.

They're clearly a ways off from being expected to move out of the groups, but they made a good showing this year.

just in context of this game. I didn't think Canada generated any decent half chances either.

Anyway Canada develops some quality midfielders and defenders is MLS grows, there is more money in MLS and Canada is able to attract some of the best in the world to come here coach/play/share experience. Until that happens Canadian soccer ain't going anywhere IMO

First thing would be to get MLS big financially which I am not sure how that would happen in a hockey crazed market where hockey thrives in winter when its snowing; but then in summer people like to do their own thing instead of attending major sporting events or sitting in front of the tv and watching
Just gotta hope that this appearance here as well as our appearance in 2026 as a host helps grow the game.

If we can make the move from a team that never had a chance to ever even qualify for the World Cup to a team that’s in every tournament, I think that would help us.

I don’t think we have a prayer of ever being a real threat in a tournament like this but hopefully one day we’ll be able to make it through the group stage.

It's really about the training and academy situation. Canada and the US are still building appropriate infrastructure.

Attacking talent is usually the first thing that can be developed because it's sexy. The most talented players want to attack and score goals and it's easier for them to move abroad to finish developing.

It'll come in time, but it's not surprising that solid defensive players aren't as abundant in the systems now.
Even when it comes to Mexico, North American academies really struggle to teach the art of defending.

I think it is very surprising that they have been unable to produce more than 1 defender of note in the last 30 years and has been the achilles heel of CONCACAF's inability to do more than make some round of 16 appearances at the World Cup (other than Costa Rica's fluke run)

I expected Canada to fail to move on to the round of 16. Just wasn't sure what form the pain was supposed to take lol. Croatia was better and deserved the win. Belgium was not and didn't deserve the win. C'est la vie.

This is baloney. CP24 and TSN were saying Canada had a good chance to win this tournament. Now what.

Yes they did better than I expected. Although their performance against Belgium isn't all that impressing considering the form the Belgians are in. Looks like they're "golden generation" has turned into rust.

If Canada can beat Morocco (which I find very hard to believe) then I will say you have a good point.

Pretty much this, getting the goal was great but when Croatia stepped on the gas pedal Canada was left in the dust and they simply gave up possession too easily.

Imagine taking anything CP24 says seriously. A network most known for predicting doom because it's raining out.

There is potential for football to be a massive sport here. However organized football is a nightmare...

The U10 program near me has 7pm start times on a school night once a week in the early spring. You spend $350. Practice is 45 min which is mostly spent just making kids chase the ball. It's largely run by volunteers or ex High School football players who have no idea what in the f*** they are doing.

Compare this to my experience in Northern Italy where, as an 11 year old... I was put through drills twice a week with a game every Saturday. My manager was a former Serie B player.

A better system would be an after school football program with a set curriculum and a coaching staff to educate and train our younger generation. Our country can barely fund our existing education programs right now so it's a very tall ask.

With regards to the MLS. The VWFC franchise is f***ing horribly managed and turning away fans right now.

Yea gonna call BS on this.

Please find a link of someone saying Canada had a chance (any chance, not even a good one) of winning this tournament.

At most I'd expect someone saying Canada had a good chance of advancing.
