Maybe I just trust @StevenToddIves more than I trust anyone else in regards to draft picks as he does the leg-work on that and whatever he says holds a hell of a lot more truth to it than a Friedman rumor, for example.I don't know why that's funny, Cooley is an incredible prospect. One of the fastest guys from this class, great two way play (although not quite wright level) and plenty of offensive upside. He's been compared to Point a lot, and if you look him play he reminds me a lot of Bratt with hints of Nico and Jack thrown in there. I don't know why everyone doesn't love this player. The only reason for us would be, we already have this type of players, but for someone who doesn't (Arizona) he might be a homerun. He's a guy that was ranked 15-20 range a year ago, and have been slowly rising rank by rank. Some people even have him as #1. I had him at #2 before the WC, but Slaf's performance has surpassed him for me. If Cooley becomes the best guy from the draft I wouldn't be surprised (same can be said about Wright and Slafkovsky too)
Edit: there's a thread in the mainboard about this: Slafkovsky Vs. Cooley
Almost 100% of non-devils fans prefer Cooley while devils fans prefer Slaf. I think one of the reasons is that there's a bit of an echo chamber effect going on both places. @StevenToddIves and others being so high on Slafkovsky and lower on Cooley has definitely skewed the perception on this sub. The other reason is, most fanbases haven't watched these guys nearly as much as we have since they have no shot on either, so their view might be dated and based entirely on stats.

He's not just some rando Devils fan on this board. He knows his s--t.
And if he didn't believe Slaf was worth it, he would've said so and more than likely would've probably preferred one of the D-men instead of Cooley(though I may be incorrect in that assumption).
But If he believed Cooley was worth it at #2, he would've said as much and I would have taken his word for it because his viewpoints carry a ton of weight.
goes, Main Board gonna Main Board.
Well, that's exaggeration. The votes are around 55-45, so I think there a lot of fans who don't have any ties to the Devils. Or maybe you could say that almost 100% of non-Devils and non-Slovak fans prefer Cooley, but I don't think that's true either.Edit: there's a thread in the mainboard about this: Slafkovsky Vs. Cooley

I agree. It's completely reasonable to think that Cooley is the second best prospect in the draft. In Bob's lottery edition ranking the situation between them is almost 50/50. I prefer Slafkovsky (and Nemec), but Cooley is also a great prospect.I was just talking about the comments. I would assume most votes are by fans of the top3 drafting teams, but this wasn't my point. I just wanted to point out that Cooley is not considered some off the board crazy pick at #2.
I've also noticed that. Maybe they fear that the Canadiens won't pick their golden Canadian boy, so it's some kind of counterreaction to it. And maybe we all are biased. Maybe Slovaks and Canadians prefer their own guys because of their nationality, and we prefer Slafkovsky because he is big and everything we need.Just counted the comments, and it's 11 votes for Cooley (all but 1 are from non-Devils fans, and the one devil fan only picks him in a vacuum) 4 votes for Slaf (2 from Devils fans).
The votes are close indeed (53,3% for Cooley as we speak), but it's hard to draw any conclusions since it seems many have an agenda here. For instance Montreal fans seem to think anyone is better than Slafkovsky
He had the right idea, but that was a nice play by the norway player. He’ll get better at those, we all know that’s what he needs to work on and pretty sure he does too. The offense is 100% there, skating as well. Need to tighten up the defence a little.Hughes had an afwul turnover, that led to a goal. Once again.
I don’t know if he has A LOT to work on, but positioning in the D-zone and decision making/keeping the puck too long stand out to me. Thankfully, those are teachable things and believe it or not, I noticed some improvements throughout the season in the games I saw. Management and him know what he needs to improve, tends to happen a lot with young and primarily offensive d-menYeah, Hughes has a lot to work on.
What’d he do? Goal?
If we draft him and he pans out, hope the broadcasters start using this phraseHoly slafkovsky
