After watching slafkovsky dominate on the international stage, i have to ask myself why didn’t he put up better numbers in the liiga? Was he playing less minutes? He would’ve lit up the CHL. I haven’t watched him with TPS

He played in a bottom-6 role with so-so linemates for most of the season. After the Olympics, he played top-6 minutes and got 6 points in 10 games.

What a dominant performance by Slovakia. I guess Denmark gave their all last night against Canada.

So unless Canada chokes against France, the final 8 is: Sweden Finland Czechia USA Switzerland Germany Slovakia and Canada (am I right?)

So pretty predictable end result, even though we had bunch of surprise results.

Fitz is sitting in his office watching something on a screen. You can see the pictures from the old Lamoriello office and the Shero office in the my3sons satirical universe in the trash. Fitz has a modern and reserved office befitting a GM. It's about noon in NJ. The phone rings. Fitz answers.

Fitz: Hello this is Tom. How are you T Squared?

Tatar (in voice over through phone): Hey Tom. I'm just giving you my daily update on Slaf. Did you see the game?

Fitz: Yes, I was just finishing my view. He had a nice effort today. That was an impressive goal for a young player when he drove to the crease.

Tatar: Yes, yes. That goal was nice. But did you see my two goals?

Fitz: Of course T Squared, how could I miss them?

Tatar: Well, I also made a great play on the Nemec goal purposely missing the puck when it randomly bounced over my glove so as not to stop play.

Fitz: Sure, T Squared, of course you did.

Tatar: Oh, and at the team breakfast, Slaf had mannapuuro and Nemec had helmipuuro and bacon. Slaf also made a joke about Finnish food which was funny but Nemec was quiet and just ate. They are both good kids but they will need mentoring.

Fitz: Uh, huh. For how many years?

Tatar: I am thinking whichever of the two of them you pick, both will need someone with a knowledge of their background and who speaks their native tongue to help them become the best players they can be.

Fitz: And how long will that take?

Tatar: Well, for Slafkovsky, I am thinking he is less mature so probably 8 years and at least 5 million per year. Namec is more mature so probably only 7 years and 4.5 million per year. Really you can't go wrong with either pick.

Fitz: That long, huh?

Tatar: Obviously, you see how long it takes to mature kids these days. I mean Zacha still likes to eat Wendy's and McDonald's on game days and you see how bad for him that is. You need me Tom.

Fitz: Well, we will see. Let's get through the draft first.

Tatar: I scored two goals today. Think of the extension as paying for my excellent play and the mentoring is a free service. You won't regret it.

Fitz: I'm sure I won't. Don't you have a team dinner or something to go to instead of talking to me?

Tatar: Oh yes, I will go now but just think about my offer. I will call you tomorrow to discuss what the boys eat and maybe I can get into their hotel rooms to see about their bathroom habits. I will call you then.

Fitz: Great, I can't wait.

Fitz hangs up the phone and rests his head in his hands. He looks down at his pad of paper on the desk. His to do list is written on it. In big bold letters at number 1 is written "Goalie?" and in big letters at number 2 is written "Bratt Contract" and at number 3 in somewhat smaller letters it says "Pick or Trade?". Fitz sighs and picks up the phone.

Fitz: When T Squared calls tomorrow please tell him I'm away from my desk.

Fade to black.

Just counted the comments, and it's 11 votes for Cooley (all but 1 are from non-Devils fans, and the one devil fan only picks him in a vacuum) 4 votes for Slaf (2 from Devils fans).

The votes are close indeed (53,3% for Cooley as we speak), but it's hard to draw any conclusions since it seems many have an agenda here. For instance Montreal fans seem to think anyone is better than Slafkovsky :D

Cooley is a fine prospect. I don't love him the way that some people do, but I think his placement at the top of the draft is fine. I wouldn't be upset if we drafted him. I would be surprised however. Would definitely catch me a bit off guard just based on things that Fitz has said and the type of players he has selected during his tenure in control.

So he's more of a friend zone prospect for you?

This is what you get when you bring in really bad countries to the tournament, it favors the strong.

This is what they are doing also in soccer world cup. Expanding the tournament so no big (market) country would be left outside the main tournament (like Italy x2 now...)

Dropped back down in the playoffs to 7 in 18 despite the bump in ice time. He seems to be a far better player playing for Slovakia.

Yeah, it's a small sample, but it's 14 points in 28 games in the top-6 for him (including playoffs), which gives a 30 point pace (60 games in Liiga) for a full season. Playoff hockey is more challenging and all, so hard to compare directly, but that top-6 production to me shows a top-6 role was way more appropriate for his skill level and style of play.

I know you weren't that high on Slaf early on, has your viewing of him in the WC changed your view a little on him?

You're right that it's hard to judge regular season vs playoffs but the playoff PPG is still quite low in comparison to other top guys who have been in the Liiga in their DY

Yeah he's still not who I go with but I think it's fine.

Maybe I just trust @StevenToddIves more than I trust anyone else in regards to draft picks as he does the leg-work on that and whatever he says holds a hell of a lot more truth to it than a Friedman rumor, for example.

He's not just some rando Devils fan on this board. He knows his s--t.

And if he didn't believe Slaf was worth it, he would've said so and more than likely would've probably preferred one of the D-men instead of Cooley(though I may be incorrect in that assumption).

But If he believed Cooley was worth it at #2, he would've said as much and I would have taken his word for it because his viewpoints carry a ton of weight.

And as far as the main board goes, Main Board gonna Main Board.

Guarantee you that those non-devils fans are voting Cooley as an attempt to WILL Slaf away from being drafted by the Devils. #JealousyIsABeeyotch

BTW, look at these stats I found from the Main Board that you so helpfully provided a link :

Aside from the "Exits" (which I have zero clue what the hell that means),retrievals, shooting, and Entry attempts, he's pretty comparable to Mr. Wright..... 🤔

Yeeeahh....still would prefer Slaf.
Yup

TPS and some of their opponents played trap hockey that didn't offer too many scoring chances in the playoffs. They got 2.33 goals per game, and their best player had 19 points in 18 games, but the second one had only 13 and the third one 12 points. Their secondary scoring was pretty weak, because the best player outside of the first line had 8 points. Slafkovsky had 7.

Olkinuora posting just ridiculous stats in this tournament 0.2GAA .990sv% (5 games), shame he's going to Switzerland next season, Devils could easily throw few million for him.
