...it seems overall they are trying to stay out of this game but one of the two calls was marginal

I never understood that excuse for not calling clear penalties. By allowing illegal play you definitely take part in the game and in the wrong way.

Don't think Finlands women should play against the US in any tournaments after this semifinal is done. It's an absolute farce by now. It's like the referees are family members with the US or something.

I believe and hope Canada will smash you in the finals. They are the best team and after witnessing this joke of a semifinal they deserve to humiliate the US and it goes both ways. The US deserves to lose the final game.

Not blaming the referees for the result, but i am curious why one of the refs is from USA. Isnt the rule normally thst refs cant be from same country as a team?

Conflict of interest... Disaster. This will only kill womens hockey if anything. IIHF and the olympic committee should wake up. I won't follow womens hockey anymore until they change things around.

Finland played good defensively and created less but really dangerous scoring chances and Keisala is more than decent but what can they do when the referees aren't able to give a fair chance for both teams.
I´m not even biased. They missed a clear penalty shot. The first PP-goal wasn't even a penalty, not even close. How the h*ll can they be so bad? They can't? These misses are too clear for the neutral supporter even, something is wrong and fishy here.

Because North American refs are the best they have... Nobody cried when it was a Canadian referee during the US-Canada finals in Canada in 2010.

canada has looked like a juggernaut all tournament. should be a tough one wednesday night.

You dont see the conflict of interest? I can guarantee that if there was a finnish and swedish ref, Yanks would be up in arms about it.

And considering the call that led to the 1-0 call and the missed trip later on in the second period, if these are the best refs that womens hockey has, thats kinda sad :D

Well indeed it is but they are the best nontheless... shot were 42-26, I mean USA the better team won. It can look bad but the refs doesn't care about the team, I would say even more they will be harsher on their own country. But yeah the female hockey refs are bad it is what it is

Oh yeah dont get me wrong, USA absolutely deserved the win.

Its just not a good look for the sport, even though there isnt corruption. Feels like a "different rules for others" type of deal you know?

Gg to USA for the win.

Do you remember how up in arms Americans were for the 2010 men's gold medal game, officiated by a Canadian? Probably not, because they weren't. It's not something that is as focused on in USA or Canada, and that's despite the 2002 women's gold medal game, officiated by an American, being one of the worst reffing performances ever - even according to American sources.

I'm looking forward to the Canada-USA gold medal game. Great rivalry and the hockey played by the top two teams has been good.

Notably different case since the only refs available were NHL refs (im pretty sure NHL 100% wanted that so the tournament would be played).

This time there were other choices available.

And the ref that was selected was Canadian, and next to no Americans complained. You tried projecting the typical European perspective on refs onto Americans and it doesn't fit even though you are somehow confident enough to "guarantee" it. Americans weren't complaining heading into the 1998 gold medal match when there was a Canadian referee either.

:D ok. I mean i cant prove it obviously but im pretty sure Americans would complain if a Finn reffed this game and i would be up in arms with them. Add a questionable call or two and youve got mayhem.

All im saying is that even though the referee most likely will do just a fine job, i dont think its smart in the long term for how it will look like for the integrity of the game

Again, im not blaming the refs for this result, absolutely not. I just dont think its a good look for hockey to have refs from the same country thats playing. And that goes for every international hockey event and game (barring the ones where the only refs are from NHL for pretty clear reasons).

Canada looked like anything but a juggernaut in that 4-2 game against the US in which our goalie saved our bacon. I think the game is a toss up. If the US wins, I will be disappointed but not surprised.

This game is a toss up. Canada has the advantage in net, but if the US generates 40 plus shots, I like their chances.
On the other hand, if Canada attacks the net with sustained pressure, they may be rewarded?

Fun fact:
It's actually the first time that Switzerland scored more than one goal vs. Canada and it's only the third time an european team is able to score 3 goals vs Canada, after Sweden 1998 and Finland 2002.

Daily Curling Update:

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

Team Canada is on a mini roll with 3 winnable games remaining. I'm not sure of the tie breaker system (head to head?) but, after beating GB, it looks doable - there is NO room for error because, one more loss, and Canada is done.

The Swiss lost their first game to the Swedish Cyborg - if Anna has returned to her 2018 form, God help us all.
