Nightly Curling Update:

The Swedish Cyborg aint what she use to be but, when Jones is the opposing skip, you don't need perfection.

Canada down 3 after 5. I can no longer watch - Canada has NO chance this year.

their curling domination days are over.
Without Jones, Canada could be 3-0. Jones is too old, too heavy (a nice way of saying "fat") and too stubborn. Enough is enough, time to retire.

(Team Kerri) Einarson would have been the better team to represent Canada.

Another loss (or 2), with 6 games left, and Canada is officially done.

I think the match of the night so far was Japan vs Denmark. 10th end down by two The Japanese women managed to pick up a double take out for three points to steal the match.

I LOVE the way they giggle - Japan is having so much fun.

It's infectious isn't it? Makes for a nice contrast from the athletes who act like they live or die wether they medal or not. It's great to see athletes enjoying what they do and so refreshing.

Meanwhile to stay on topic Russian and Swiss women are still tied 0-0 entering the 2nd. The Swiss Miss Ice Mice hold the edge in shots 8-6.

It took a while, but Phoebe Staenz puts the Swiss Miss Ice Mice up 1-0 with under five left in the second. This has been a hard fought defensive battle so far.

Russia scores, but the Swiss have challenged saying the puck went out at the bench off the turnbuckle prior to the goal scoring play.

Ruiling on the ice overturned no goal. We stay at 1-1.

Controversial non-goal for Russia, very dodgy call to say the least. Until I see evidence, I will say decision was rigged.

Brutal and utterly deflating, but shown clearly on replay it was the correct call. It hit off the stanchion at the end of the bench which puts out of play according to the rules.

Russia gets the equalizer with little over three minutes left only to give up the go ahead for the Swiss 30 seconds later.

Russian coach was so afraid to give up the empty net short handed goal he didn't pull the goalie until there were less than 30 seconds left. Despite all that and being up 6-4 with the extra attacker they still give up the empty net goal and lose 4-2.

Swiss Miss Ice Mice advance.

I would've gave Japan about a 15% chance of winning, but 2 minutes into FIN/JPN and game might as well be over already. Disappointing for Japan as they've had some close matches with SUI and RUS recently.

and this is what I worried about with Finland going up 2-0 at the start. They have the goaltending that can shut things down.

Why tf did the Russian coach go so incredibly late for the 6-on-4?

The only reason I can think is that when you are on a penalty kill you can dump the puck from your own end without icing, and he got so scared of turning the puck over and giving up the long range goal from the Swiss end he waited until the last moment... At which point his team gives up the long range empty net goal.

Japan's down 4-1, but at least they're still putting in work and getting some decent offensive chances. They're probably not going to come back and it's an incredible uphill battle after that terrible star, but at least they're making a game of it.

Lol. After two wasted attempts by Tapani to go for a highlight reel goal, she just says "eff it," and buries it.

And so winds Japan's "historic" run towards its end. Beat all seeds below them in the rankings, then run into a wall when they actually end up facing a team above them.
