WJC TSN Deappreciation Thread

I've spent a few minutes reading all this garbage, looking for some semblance of a hockey discussion; unfortunately, I haven't been successful.

And from what I've read from you, you've certainly got your work cut-out.

you can walk the walk but can you talk the talk?

The whining in this thread is worse than anything McGuire has said. The only thing he's guilty of is talking too much, and many in this thread seem to have the same problem.

At least he's got a clue as to what he's talking about... ;)

He said Kessel has Pat Lafontaine's skating and Brett Hull's shot. Enough said.

It's a Canadian station covering Team Canada in a Canada's favorite game for an audience that is 99.9% Canadian. what is the problem here? So what if they are pro-Canadian. It makes sense to me.

I can't take Pierre anymore. I actually watched the Canada-US game on mute. I think the reason he's so bad is he feels the need to analyze and re-analyze nothing plays, and make something out of nothing. Like when a Canadian player was carrying the puck through the neutral zone and got checked, and the centerman was able to pick up the loose puck, and he goes on, and on, and on about how he "took the hit to make the play" when he simply fell and someone was there to pick it up.

Or the need to but in with stupid comments in the middle of the play. The worst is when he goes down the list of all the scouts of a certain team and commend them on a sensational pick when they guy was ranked like no. 5 by central scouting.

There's a million other things that make me pull my hair out during the games but I'm too riled up right now to think of them. Maybe I'll make a list tomorrow...

I really don't mind Pierre Mcguire but then again I like Bob Cole too so go figure..

I'll grant you though at that draft a couple of years ago, when Jersey drafted Parise, I thought Mcguire was going to start crying tears of joy or emitting some other bodily fluids from another orifice!!! Man, he wouldn't shut up about that draft choice the whole show????? I like Parise too but that was wayyyyyy over the top.....

He really does grab onto a favorite and really runs with it.....other then that, I enjoy most of his insight and his commentary!!

I like Bob Cole too, but he's not a color guy ranting and raving all game

I think Glen Healey would have done a much better job doing color for this game than P-Mac

I'm watchin the OTT/WSH game today and he's much more in touch with reality

Guys, its a hockey broadcast. Most of you know less about hockey than Pierre Macguire has forgotten. Yes hes over the top, and yes he gets overexcited about certain players. I mean, you come to HF, you should be used to it. Judging from here Phil Kessel is a miracle away from becoming a bona fide saint and Team Canada only wins because they cheat. At least Macguire gets excited about hockey.

Healey is pretty dumb too sometimes. Last year in an AHL game he said if Brian McGrattan tried to fight Tie Domi that McGrattan would end up in the hospital, and we all know how that turned out.

I think that's our point. Mcguire is more suited for message board arguments than professionally calling a hockey game.

It's funny you should say that Metallian because I learn an awful lot about the goings on about the NHL and International Hockey since I do not get too see a lot of games.........I enjoy what fans are saying about their teams and appreciate many of the salient points from the various hockey fans here from all around the globe!!

I don't even get too see my beloved Philly Flyers that much so I have too count on those that do.........and likewise for other teams and for prospects.....

Glen Healy!??!?? You like that bag of wind, Glen Healy? What are you, NUTS!?!? Healy is the one and only guy that TSN really, really need to get rid of!!!

I will side with the dump Pierre Mcguire side. He's annoying, interrupts, constantly mistaken and overly Bias. Sometimes it leaves me hoping the opposing team wins. Get rid of him. He constantly blames the opponents and/or the officiating. I started the tourney with Go Canada Go, now I may be somewhat satisfied if they lose and PM jumps off a bridge.

You know what? If the commentary TSN provides pisses you guys off so much, mute your ****ing TV and turn on the goddam radio.

HF is lucky enough to have Bob Mackenzie and Gord Miller go as far as to post on our boards. I wouldn't blame them if they conveniently forgot about this website's existence, and it would be the fault of immature and childish whiners who post and participate in threads like this.

TSN goes balls out to make sure Canadians can watch this tournament. No other country gives a rats *** about the World U20 Championship like we do, and if not for TSN, we wouldn't care so much either.

What can I say...I like the guy. Sure, he's no hockey genious but I think he tells things evenly and more importantly I don't cringe everytime he talks.

But then again, if you don't like Healy...thats the point of this thread ;)

If they choose to discontinue their posting here out of spite for those of us who dislike Pierre Mcguire, then so be it.

99% of the people here sing Bob's praises (including myself) so I see no reason why he would be personally offended by the comments directed to other TSN staff members.

Another thing that ticked me off was after Pogge got that 13 save shutout or whatever, they had the camera on him the entire time before they presented the game MVP......and Marc Staal got it

TSN does a WONDERFUL job of presenting WJC every year! In fact, WJC on TSN is one of the things that I look forward to at every Christmas vacation!!! It's become a family tradition at my family, my father's family, my brother family and at many of my friend's families.

Sportsnet is by far the worst at presenting hockey and I for one will cry if WJC ever goes to them! Gotta admit that Camera work at CBC was better but now, even that gap is closing. For the record, Healy's the only one that needs to go from TSN.

Now for Pierre's miracle:

After resisting hockey for many, many years, it was Pierre who actually got my wife hooked on the tournament with his over the top antics! She find Pierre hilarious and enjoys the excitment that he brings to the broadcasts. This is something that neither Don Cherry, or Dave Hodge or even Foster Hewit ;) couldn't do...convert my wife into a hockey fan!!!

My wife from the kitchen: "Oh, oh, that guys getting excited again!!! ...when's the gold medal game being played again? Can you call me when the game starts?"

I'd never thought that these would be words that I would hear coming from my wife...and this is all due to one Pierre McGuire! WHAMMO!!!

BTW Bob MacKenzie, I counted 8 days between you using "Having said that..." ;) I bet that you ARE reading these posts!!!

Two good examples of exactly what Pierre Magiure does wrong came not more than 30 seconds apart in the US-Finland game.

The first one came when Gord mentioned that in 1996 the medal round was insitituted, and Pierre chimed in and very thoughtfully added that that was the year after Red Deer. Well thanks, I was curious where the tournament was the year BEFORE the medal round was in place.

The second one was about 30 seconds later, when he mentioned that one of the American's fathers is from Thunder Bay. I'm sick enough of him constantly telling me where each player in the entire tournament is form, who they play for and who they were drafted by every time they touch the puck, I think it's enough to abstain from mentioning where their fathers were born.

This may seem pretty minor, but it's the constant onslaught of useless informationg that gets to me.

And now a quick update, he just retracted on his praise of Kessel during the Russia game. At that point he talked about how Kessel was not just a great goal scorer, but a great playmaker, hence his 1G 9A. Now, however, he says it's been a dissappointiing tournament for Kessel, since 5 of his 9 points came against Norway. If you're going to be an idiot, at least stick it out as an idiot.

Summed up my thoughts perfectly. We knew thanks to Bob who is reffing today's gold medal game. Without him posting it we would wait until the game started. It's a priviledge to have both of them post on these boards.

Amen to that.

Bob is God.

*groan* Its 20 minutes till the puck drops, but instead of hyping up the matchup they're talking about Pogge's mom's financial status

Here's in defence of Pierre McGuire.

I personally like him. I think that he provides an interesting in-depth commentary of the games. I have seen some pretty unexciting hockey games that had a semblance of interest because of the analysis by Pierre.
This guy is a HUGE source of information, and he is well rounded with his knowledge of hockey not just in Canada, but all over the world.
He never fails to impress me with little tidbits of information about players, their backgrounds, etc..

I think he is the best hockey analyst around, and my hat goes off to him for his continued excellence.

Keep it up Pierre!

I agree, I think that Pierre McGuire does know what he's talking about but when he gets excited he says stupid things like for example that comment after canada's first goal in the Canada-Russia game when he said something about Malkin like: "I'm a Russian superstar i only think about offence i don't have to think about defence." Even though im a Canada fan, that annoyed me
