McGuire's problem is that he has his few pet causes/players and he just goes ON AND ON about them. It reminds me of ESPN Sunday Night Football:

Mike Patrick: Blah blah blah Mike Vike blah blah blah Brett Favre blah blah blah Tom Brady blah blah blah Peyton Manning blah blah blah Rey Lewis blah blah blah .... even when they arn't in the game!

Pierre McGuire: Blah blah blah composite sticks blah blah blah Parise is better than Nillson blah blah blah Naslund trade blah blah blah red line blah blah blah bad referees blah blah blah Dion Phaneuf blah blah blah ... even when it has nothing to do with what's going on at that time.

It's actually quite funny that everyone seems to realize Mcguire is a tool and makes an *** of himself every telecast. Its almost unreal when I speak with people throughout the tourney about the games and within seconds the discussion becomes about how terrible Mcguire is. Usually it was the reffing, then right to Pierre bashing. I was on various other message boards, whl, bchl, etc and all of them have threads about how bad Pirre is to listen to.

Its crazy, we should not be discussing a color guy, we should be discussing hockey, but this clown has mad eit almost unbearable. Thank God when the Canucks are on TSN I can mute the TV and listen to the radio.

My favorite tonight was Gord saying how the whole forward line played for Canada at the Under 18 and then ten seconds later, Pierre mentioned to Gord how all three forwards played for Canada at the Under 18....gee thanks for listening Pierre.

Anyone else notice Bob McKenzie when Pierre stuck his hand out to tap Duthie? Almost saw a thought bubble above his head "You Gotta Be Kidding me".

What happened here? I must have missed this tirade.

During TSN's coverage of the 2003 draft, Pierre went off on Milbury for drafting Robert Nilsson instead of Zach Parise.

This is only the fourth game I've seen on TSN, but I thoroughly enjoy their broadcasts. Apparently I'm in a minority, but I find McGuire highly entertaining. Personally I think he knows his stuff and, yes there are some theatrics, but he is passionate about the game and it comes out in his work. I don't know, personally, I think this "unwatchable" and "ruined" garbage is a great deal of hyperbole. Just my own views.

I thought Miller and McGuire were going to come to blows yesterday during the Sweden/Finland game, arguing about Yzerman's sweater being retired for this Olympics.

I agree with you. I enjoy the love that he puts into his commentary. He's very excited, and he gets into it. He also has interesting anecdotes (sp?) to toss out, as opposed to Joe Bowen or Harry Neale who i have to listen to all the time.

Nobody is denying that he's in love with everything Canadian, and he makes a big deal out of it, but hey, nobodies forcing you to watch the broadcasts, you can always just read the paper the next day if you don't like an energetic broadcast. Heck, I'm sure if you look long enough you could find a box score right after the game...you won't get any bias there. (unless you're worried Macguire writes the boxscore, and puts a comentary in for the penalties...)

Staal-2min: A trip? Oh come on--it was clearly a dive. These refs are KILLING me!, at 11:46 of the 2nd period

Barker-2 min: What? That was a clean hit...if you want to see something that's dirty, why not look at God for giving him mono last year...he's got alot to prove this time around!, at 14:16 of the 2nd period

I don't know what frickin' audio feed you're getting on your TV but it sure as hell doesn't sound like what I'm hearing.

You either need a professional ear-cleaning or a good, long hard look at why you seem to slag Canada and TSN at almost every turning.
Are you watching Rogers Sportsnet or something?

And I don't "slag" on Canada, I "slag" on the media representation of them.

And don't say they are portrayed as underdogs. Not since pre-tournament were they shown as that, and that was only based on age.

Ever since its been "11 wins" this, "best forchecking" that, and every play they make its "unbelievable" and every penalty against them is "horrible officiating" it gets played out

Does TSN focus mainly on Canada? Friggin' right they do and as a Canadian living in Canada, I wouldn't have it any other way. Let Swedish TV focus mainly on the Swedes. Oh, I forgot, they're not showing the games.

In an international tournament of the best players in the world (under 19) I'd like to at least have an inpartial assesment of the talent I am watching

I mean heck, yes I'm Canadian, but why are they talking about the Canadian game during the Russian games intermission? IT MAKES NO SENSE

With that said though, Bob McKenzie is doing a great job as usual. have nothing against his moments nor Duthie's

They have a monopoly on it dude...

This is too rich. You are watching a Canadian telecast & you expect it to be impartial. :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
And ya, it does make sense. Most people watching are interested in what the announcers have to say about Canada, irrespective of who's playing. Get used to it, its what most everyone wants to hear. In the real world, people cater to their audience, hence we hear alot about Canada.

I have very little problem with TSN's coverage. They show the games and have pre game shows, post game shows, lots of coverage during the news, and that's what I want. Who cares if they were talking about the Canadian team during the Russian/U.S. game? The Canadian game finished an hour earlier and since the audience is Canadian, doncha think they're giving the Canadian fans what they want?

As for Pierre, yeah, he can be a pain in the *** at times, yeah, he goes on and on about the same things at times. The stuff early on about the reffing was crazy. But he's also very knowledgeable. I think he's getting on everyone's nerves because we're seeing him every other day so all his annoyances are magnified.

I think Miller is doing a great job, and Bob McKenzie is excellent. James Duthie is funny. Congrats TSN for the contract extension!

It's been bugging me since I went to the CAN/SWI game at the Pacific Coliseum and saw him in person, but James Duthie looks older in person than he does on TV.

I mean, wow. :shakehead

Yeah, most people turn on TSN at 11pm to watch the Russa/USA game because they want to hear about Canada  THIS is too rich

I completely agree, love Pierre MacGuire and the passion he brings, every broadcast has a bias, just ask any non-leafs fan that ever sits through a HNIC broadcast.

Just sift through it.

6 - The bashing of Lemtyugov
~P-Mac
Why: Who cares that he wears #66 in the RSL, it's not like he's not allowed to, Lemieux's never even played in the RSL so whats the deal? Noone can wear #66 ANYWHERE?
Who cares that he has white skates? Is he a fashion critic now?
Who cares that his nickname is "Lemieux"? He wears 66 and both have last names that start with LEM, I think that's a reasonable nickname...Jeez!

I really like P-Mac! And the coverage by TSN is great! I have the chance to watch the game in French on RDS ! They are so boring!!! :( Great job by TSN and their pannel!

Its true....P-Mac is much better than having to listen to the game in French

Okay, I'll grant you that Mcguire over does it at times but can anyone give this Flyer fan a non bias an opinion about Steve Downie?

Yes I know he is somewhat dirty..but is the kid any good??? I can't trust Pierre!!!!

I'm largely Anti-Downie so bear with me, but I think Downie projects to be a good 3rd line grit guy. I see a dirtier Darcy Tucker, who has the possibility to become a locker room cancer, but still be valueable on the ice.

Sean Avery??

Same here

Just in case a "somebody" actually reads this thread, I think Pierre MacGuire, Bob MacKenzie and Gord Miller do a great job at what they do. Keep them on!

It's during the intermission so although I'm on TSN at 11 pm to watch the Russia/USA game, I also want to know what's up with Team Canada. I am very thankful that I have TSN; I get to see all of Canada's games plus some other teams' games too. Can you say the same with other countries' broadcasters? I also enjoy listening to Pierre McGuire, he's a very colourful guy and is fun to listen to and I don't think that turned me disrespectful of other teams.

Everything above is NOT true. TSN is pro-Canada yes, but it doesn't think Canada is perfect. Even now that Canada is in the final, there's no analist who has indicated that Canada is the favorite and they've all said that our power play is not good and that we can't win against the Russians if we don't correct that. I seriously think you should check your ears.

Metallian, I hope you are wrong about Downie being akin to Darcy Tucker!??

Ugh......I can't stand the type of hockey Tucker plays!! I suppose a pest is a nice thing to have on your team but they are not good for the betterment of Hockey as a whole!!

Well he's putting up good numbers now, but that doesn't always translate to the NHL, as we all know!

I dunno....I'm thinkin a reincarnation of Sean Avery (45pt guy who aggitates)

That's just my take on it. I've seen some people here say he'll be as good as Mike Richards..
