They only get food after 50 saves in daily practise. After 100 saves, their families get food. At 500 saves the water taps are turned on.

And until age of 15 all Finnish juniors are trained as goalies. Of course this leads to slight problems on some other areas, but what the hell...

Even though I bleed blue and white, I have to admit Sweden got robbed tonight. Finland didn't bring it and were outhustled and outskated by Sweden. Only Tukonen and Korpikoski looked even remotely dangerous. Tuukka Rask simply stole the show in this game. It goes to show anything can happen in hockey when you run into a hot goaltender. As for the guy called Ola; Chill. The Swedish d's pushed Tukonen into the crease and he didn't trip anyone.

However, the questionable call was the penalty on Viklund (I think).

It was a call that never should have been called.

I am not very happy even if we won, cause this team plays like crap.

Sweden has a sweet team, they did everything well except they do not have finishers. Most of the shots on goal were really weak shots, nobody had a touch around the net, but they are a good team nevertheless. Excellent game though, very clean and had fantastic flow!

Tukonen was shoved in. Take off your blue and yellow glasses.

Right should be right. Shoved in? He was barely in the crease. He did push his stick into Larsson and that took him down. Thats a fact and nothing else, especially not whining. Though it aint easy for one ref to see but its still a fact, I don't care what the other swedes say because thats what happend.

What did I say? Sweden lost, and they did it fair and square. Finland was a much better team today. Sweden chokes in the quarterfinal as usual.

Congrats to the finns

get over it Ola. We lost because we couldn't score. That's just how it is.

My notes after watching the game:
- Rask was great, there weren't that many difficult shots but still he was the reason why Finland won
- Tukonen and Korpikoski were/are the only forwards for Finland with gamebreaking ability, both of them looked really fast out there, or was it just me?
- Nicklas Bäckström looks like top-10 pick, definately a first-rounder
- Unfortunately the same cannot be said about Jesse Joensuu, something seems to be missing
- Other players that caught my eye were: N. Bergfors, S. Karlsson, M. Hellström and J. Ryno

I'd say that is even more terrible.

Sweden was better in creating chances and all, but Finland had better goaltending, and better scoring. First 2 periods were all sweden, in the 3rd it was a bit more even....and finland was better in 4th

Give me a break. Sweden dominated the game 60 minutes. Agree that we were better in OT (because of the penalty).

I agree, big diffrence in shots on goal but in clean chances it was pretty even. Don't think a Sweden tried to one time it once besides from the blue line and close in the crease. We had the puck allot but no players to capatilize on it.

Did you see the same goal as I just saw? It's perfectly clean.

Finnish D was very good today cleaning the front of the net. They have been horrible in the games before, today they really showed up to work. Sweden was much better offensively, and their D-men were defensively as good, and offensively way better.

Leppänen looked so lost on the point, he always waited for a guy to block his shot.

People are bagging on Joensuu, but he's been a lot more noticeable since the Canada game. He got pretty involved tonight.

I said a bit more even. Sweden started to be more careful and they were not as dominant in the third that they were in the first two. But they were still better. OT was ours though, despite a few very good swedish chances. Finland managed to keep them out of the scoring sector most of the time, but Sweden was totally dominant in puck possession.

ah well, why does it always end with a choke for sweden. And no, I don't give a damn about VM. WJC is more exciting. I wanted so bad to do good in this tournament. :shakehead

I'd be happy if I were you. In any case, none of these teams have a shot of beating Canada so you'll have to beat one of Russia, USA or the Czechs to get the bronze. The Czechs could be beatable but I have a feeling that you'll have to deal with Malkin..

Truly good teams find a way to win. Finland won and deserved it too. Why? Because they had the better, although alot fewer, chances to score AND they had a good goalie. The only good swedish chances was some power plays with Bäckström & Bergfors and Ryno hitting the goal post. Every other shot were more or less a wasted effort since they had nobody in front of the net and they didn't even try to move Rask from side to side.

Being able to hold on to the puck and just throw it on net for the hope of a fluke goal doesn't mean that you play well. This is typical swedish and quite frankly I'm glad that Rask didn't let in a weak goal to those crappy shots.

Damn... I watched the goal too, looks clean. Good effort from Sweden though, I am really impressed by their tournament.

The goal is clean, but actually... Watching the penalty on Viklund again made me think twice and it doesn't look like much of a penalty to me now... Sure, he puts his stick in there, but still it doesn't feel like a penalty. Here's the video: http://hem.bredband.net/jenslindmark/penaltyornot.mpg

Sure didn't look intentional, that's for sure. Penalty or not? Depends on the level during the game. If the ref was consistent, I see no problem with that call.

Yeah, the Finnish hockey association in coohoots (or how the hell that's spelled) with TSN and the Finnish channel changed it. They moved the players around a bit to make it look clean. It's true!

Though I've seen much smaller plays been waved off. And Tukonens skate does knock Larssons glove in the crease so it wouldn't be unjustified...

Yeah when does the Olympics start???

in about 2 months? Doesn't really matter though. We wont win crap with our tired veterans. I rather wanted to do good in WJC...

Yeah, I liked him tonight. Play of the night was him dropping a Swedish forward alone with the puck in front of the empty net.

Rask New Year's resolution is apparently not to let in any goals. I agree Swedes were robbed, although the amount of really good chances they got is less than the shot clock would lead you to think. I feel bad for #7 (Nylund?) was really good all night, except for that stupid tripping penalty. Maybe that was one difference, Finns played really discplined hockey.
