I can understand why some may find this a less than exciting game so far, but I’m just happy to be able to watch some competitive hockey.

Nice to see Germany hanging in there and even pushing play at times.

Got a chuckle from the poor linesman getting dumped then crunched. There’s a few NHL Referees I’d like to see get that type of treatment

Finland and Germany opened the 2003 tourney in Halifax in front of a very large and raucous crowd. The attendance in Halifax was unreal for every game.

I wouldn't doubt it, but I'd be surprised if people were paying a minimum of $50 per ticket for that game.

Hockey Canada and the IIHF have gotten too greedy, and while they can blame Covid this year for weak attendance, I can see it continuing to be an issue if they keep trying to gauge people. Recall the issues they had with the Montreal/Toronto tournament in 2015 and 2017, people didn't go because it was too expensive (ironically, I did go both years, paying about $10 on the secondary market for a ticket).

This is not a bad game from Germany. Unfortunately, these hockey countries such as Germany, Switzerland or Slovakia often have a problem entering the offensive zone in their own powerplay. So the Finns could be completely calm during the German powerplay. A total of three times easily threw the puck out and oncte the Germans play offside. I think that the Finnish performance will increase and the Germans will not chase the Finnish players at a higher pace, and thst means the only thing- a powerplay. And the Finns are masters at using powerplay.
I’d be extremely disappointed if that was us this year with who we have on our powerplay. Plus the system is run by Fenes who ran a pretty good PP at the Hlinka. But yeah that’s usually the problem. Especially when power plays can be so key to upsetting an opponent

Oh I know, I’m just glad the score isn’t extremely lopsided off the start and hoping it can stay close. Even though with how skilled Finns are, they will probably pull away. But it Would give me a lot more confidence for tonight against USA lol
I'm definetly rooting for Slovakia tonight. Crush those americans!

Very underwhelming start from Finland. The goal was something out of nothing und just luck. That shouldn't normally go in. Germany was actually the better team.

Some changes I would like to see

Move Hirvonen to C and put Järventie next to him and Simontaival when he's healthy

Put Kemell on the first PP, I know they have some set plays that Puutio does well but Kemell can do them just as well

I'm really sad that Peterka and Reichel isn't here. Stutzle was expected, but Germany looks quite decent, they'd have been really good with those other 2 guys as well. Munzerberger and Elias were the only 2 guys I expected much out of.

Finland is having a hard time with their zone exits against the aggressive forecheck.
