Physical forecheck leads to the Finnish D man flipping the puck out in the defensive zone under pressure.

German PP coming up.

Rafkin has not began this first period so well in my opinion. I expect more.

Would be huge to get one and making it a tied game before the intermission.
Feel like our german team is solid overall, but we do lack high end talent.

Pretty classic Pennanen's Finland start. For some reason they start very slow. But 2nd and 3rd periods have been very strong before, so for now i'm still very confident.

If the Germans stay focused I can see them keeping Finland to 3 goals possibly, the question is can they score 3? That's tough to picture.

Canadians only care about their own team

Tickets were also crazy expensive, even on the secondary market. I was looking to go to this (and a couple other non-Canada games), but the tickets wouldn't fall below C$50 each, for upper bowl. I'm not spending that much to watch Finland and Germany, sorry.

Finland and Germany opened the 2003 tourney in Halifax in front of a very large and raucous crowd. The attendance in Halifax was unreal for every game.

Defensively it was pretty solid, as I expected from this team.
I was surprised that they even managed a little bit of offense, but I will still stick with my 0-5 prediction.

Too bad our power play sucks,

This game so far is really good for us. Slovaks limited Germans to 18 shots total and were overall really good against Germans despite Dvorsky playing bad, resting top guys in the third and Demek playing on the 4th line.

Ottavainen sucks, so weird they left out left handed Liiga regulars like Rajaniemi, Paaso and Jurmo to pick a right handed guy to play on his off-side instead.

Based on that period, Germany would have a good chance with one or two of its missing players. It still might, really, though I don't expect it.

Finland looked like trash last year in the beginning, and eventually they took bronze. This is pretty classic for us, when stakes are high they will perform.

Oh I know, I’m just glad the score isn’t extremely lopsided off the start and hoping it can stay close. Even though with how skilled Finns are, they will probably pull away. But it Would give me a lot more confidence for tonight against USA lol

This is not a bad game from Germany. Unfortunately, these hockey countries such as Germany, Switzerland or Slovakia often have a problem entering the offensive zone in their own powerplay. So the Finns could be completely calm during the German powerplay. A total of three times easily threw the puck out and oncte the Germans play offside. I think that the Finnish performance will increase and the Germans will not chase the Finnish players at a higher pace, and thst means the only thing- a powerplay. And the Finns are masters at using powerplay.
