I hope it changes. The kid is still really really young...but Kapanen would need to be more dynamic than this. For a kid who is so sure of his talents, despite the young age, he will have to show more in his regular seasons in the upcoming years.

I'd say better than yesterday, still not really a factor. Lambert is noticeable nearly every shift

He looks that way in JyP, too. Problem in JyP is typically he's doing all that heavy lifting for nothing. JyP *never* has speed and numbers through the neutral zone. Average Lambert shift in Finland is he gives his team a free zone entry and the play just dies, and he goes off for a change. Repeat ad infinitum.

I feel like I have been so negatively conditioned from watching the Habs that any player that gets free entries as often as Lambert seems like a damn superstar. Controlled entries are such a premium for the NHL, combined with Lambert's playmaking and vision makes me think he can at least carve out a role in the NHL.

That injury sucks for Jiricek and the CZE team, but this might be our only chance to draft him if we end up drafting 3-4th OV. With a great tournament, he is likely gone top 3.

I don't think I've seen a draft list that has him in the top 3.

In the 1st intermission today Bob McKenzie showed his top 10 draft eligibles playing in this tournament based on his conversations with NHL scouts. Jiricek was #7 and that was pre-injury. This list doesn't include players not in the WJC like Savoie, Geekie and Mirochnichenko (or however you spell it).

Well, that was a really boring game between Finland - Austria. Fell asleep twice.

In between naps, I watch Lambert and I wonder if his development path is similar to Huberdeau's.

Anyways, it's the next game I really want to watch, Russia vs Switzerland.

Lian Bichsel of Switzerland was a joy to watch on D at u18s. He's already a man-mountain, plays a powerful game on D and has a big time shot. This tournament will be more of a challenge for him.

And, of course, still trying to see more of Yurov. Plus, who doesn't want to watch Michkov?

Watched the game late, just a few thoughts :

Lambert was great again for Finland. He was second on my list at the beginning of the year but I had to bump him down a few spot for a couple of reasons (lack of production, concerns about him being more than a rush player, possible attitude problems). He was good in his first two games, Lambert is already one of the top 3 skater in this draft and a monster zone entries with possession.

I just want him to be more dangerous when they have possession in the offensive zone. Today, he moved around towards open space a couple of times to offer more options. Other times he stayed on the board and did the “Drouin” turn on himself. He needs to attack the center more so he can open space and set up his teammates. Other than that, he played great again. It’s nice to see him have success and hopefully he decides to shoot a bit more. He was really the explosive for Finland. He’s still weak physically but won more battles than Kemell because he was able to use his stick more effectively.

Kemell, is what he is. I don’t think he was ever the play driver. He plays a simple game and coupled with his amazing shooting arsenal, he will get chances. I don’t know if you want a guy that can’t carry his lane at that spot.

He had two great chances around the net (one by Kapanen) and couldn’t shoot.

He also had the chance to send his teammate on a breakaway on a 2v1 but he slowed down at the blue line because he didn’t want to take the hit which resulted in an offside. Also lost a lot of battles around the boards.

Kapanen was a bit invisible. It’s like he’s always at the right place, but either to soft on his plays or just not strong enough at other moments. Can’t be a tourist if you want to have success. Hopefully he gets better as the tournament advances.
