They better not knee jerk reaction cancel this thing. They made their decisions to ot bubble now they gotta figure it out. Don’t cancel unless there’s too many positives to go on. You allow NO fans and bubble before you cancel!

Just cancel the tournament and reschedule it for the summer. this is not what the kids signed up for, fans signed up for, and it's a waste of time.

There's no way it will get rescheduled if it gets canceled. Too many obstacles and other events both in IIHF cycle and NHL cycle. Players will be getting ready for NHL camps in the summer.

I certainly don't envy Governments and what they need to determine over the next few months but this just isn't a sustainable way for anyone to move forward right now.

It's gone too far, IMO. There seems to be no regard for people's mental health and a sense of normalcy. Many, the great majority of people have fallen in line with the restrictions this far. And we get nothing, with no goal in sight. I'm quite done with it all.

they have, absolutely, think about all the fans/players/coaches and there was a handful of games that were rescheduled. They were able to keep it going and didn't cancel the league/games for a a couple players. They were always read to rock and roll. It's been great as a fan.

Each NFL team has 4 months to play 17 games. In the WJC each team has 4-7 games to play in a 10-11 day period. No expanded rosters or waiver wire as well.

My personal favourite here in Ontario is I can eat a meal side by side with you in a restaurant but can’t eat anything side by side in my individual seat at a movie theatre. Explain that one. Anyways, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion on Covid. I believed the danger when the original virus and Delta came and went but now it’s getting a little silly when most aren’t having symptoms but we’re still reacting like it.

airports/planes are even better. keep 6 feet of distance prior to boarding. then sandwich people in with 3 inches of separation in either direction, while feeding them and serving them drinks. wcgw?

broken. they're breaking people. our relationship with the government is extremely toxic but we can't just leave.

right. why no bubble? why no taxi squad? why not have the person who tests positive sit out instead of the whole team, test on game day, you're not positive, you're good to go...I'm sure not one player is worried about getting it. It's a dark comedy at this point.

They should’ve allowed a taxi squad of like 7 players. They stay separate from team, ready to rock in case of this emergency. If a players tests positive twice, send them home and the taxi squad takes their place. Oh and a bubble and no fans.

Because they're following protocols largely based on science. Omicron is relatively new and caught everyone off guard. Hopefully this will be the final mutation that requires heavy handed restrictions.

It's kind of where I am,

I followed the lockdowns, got my vaccinations, got my passport, I masked up, socially distanced. I didn't see my parents, friends, loved ones for months.. and we are back again at this point, where the variant seems mostly toothless but the contagion is high, yet we are acting like its the first deadly strain and we are unprotected.

I have no patience left, I have no will to follow the strict guidelines..

I guess every other pro sport organization in the world isn't following the science...

Not sure what you mean. The players were in Alberta when the IIHF canceled January tournaments. The Spengler Cup also got canceled a few days ago because the host team had an outbreak. NHL games got suspended for a week and most aren't being played.

Just because you're upset about the WJC situation (I am too), we can't abandon health guidelines.

Figured a cancellation would happen...hope not but the numbers have been spiking like crazy and doesn't look like they are in a REAL bubble at the tournament.

And we thought they would be all right... Next up is the NHL and their dwindling strategies to make gate revenues.

NHL will be fine. Omicron is high case count and mostly toothless, we are going endemic its just governments are likening case counts with the impact on health sectors during early pandemic with a harsher virus and no immunities in the general population.

NHL should be ok. The WJC is bang smack in the middle of Omicron which is spreading like wildfire. Once it passes, I d0n't see restrictions being as heavy handed as most unvaccinated will likely get infected this winter.

They have only 4 cases.
I mean, if the IIHF was thinking of cancelling the tournament with a grand total of 4 positives on 3 different teams, why the hell didn't they come up with a more robust protocol?

Well aware of it, but in a populist / demagogue environment, the quality of arguments doesn't out-weight the amount of people sharing the same opinion. If some States decide to restrict event attendances, then I bet the league will shut down. Too many games to reschedule. Best case, they take a pause and they start back with a reduced calendar.
