The tournament definitely put a stark contrast on our top draft choice vs barzal. It's not a great barometer though and I still like meiers game.

The interesting thing to me about meier is that he seemed really passive, even in his shootout attempt. It was not what I was expecting at all.

I've watched him in other games and he's ususlky very aggressive on the forecheck and takes a lot of shots. He hasn't really looked like himself imo.

Is there some stats that show players ice-times? Would be interesting to see how much Chartier, Hicketts (because he seemed to be always on the ice), Meier and Rod played.

Nothing available in print but the Swiss shortened their bench in a BIG way in the 3rd and I'd guess both Meier & Rod played somewhere in the 21-25min range.

Chartier was probably closer to 12 or so.

Looks like Chartier may stick with Point and Marner, at least for a little while.

Skating on what's essentially TC's top line is one hell of an opportunity for him.

That is great opportunity and that line worked well against Switzerland on 3rd! Also fun to see some posters from Canada crying that Chartier is on the first line because they can't see how he does all the small things right.

Maybe this is harsh but Timo Meier plays like a bigger Tyler Kennedy. He's energetic and has the skill to bring the puck into the zone but gets absolute tunnel vision once he does that -- takes garbage shots from terrible angles and has zero offensive creativity or playmaking ability.

I don't know if you've watched him outside this tournament, but he's been much better in Halifax. A lot of us have been impressed by his improved playmaking this season. Yes he's had a bad tournament, but most of the team has. His linemates aren't great and Switzerland is getting dominated possession wise most of the time.

Not sure what he was thinking with that Matthews hit.

He's just had a poor tournament, his play in this WJC isn't really reflective of the kind of player he's been over the past couple of seasons.

Matthews never fails to impress me.

Matthews is kinda my pet prospect. I saw him at the U17 two years ago when he was coming off a major knee surgery and not very highly regarded. I had a list of guys on that US team that I was planning to watch (Hanifin, Werenski, White, Bracco, and Luke Kirwan, who was once regarded as a top-10 prospect for the 2016 draft). Instead I came away more impressed with Matthews than any but Hanifin. I was sure he was gonna be a superstar before anyone else. Yep, I'm still pretty smug about it.

This game isn't even enjoyable.

The US is the team to beat in my mind. They're better than Canada this year without doubt.

I'm just happy I am not witnessing this game :D Really shame that we traded our 2016 1st because there is so much talent on this tournament. Puljujärvi, Matthews, Laine, Tkachuck, Juolevi, Gauthier, A.Nylander...

But Jones has been great for us so if the pick is not going to be top 10 pick I am okay with it.
