One reason I don't worry too much about Silayev's offense compared to the other guys is no matter who we draft, their numbers might be a little lower than with other teams. Ducks already have Zellweger and Minty who will be able to run power plays, the time that the drafted D gets on the PP might be pretty limited. It'll be more important to get a guy that can kill penalties and provide elements that those two can't. Silayev will definitely help either of the two (especially Zell) with a physical presence and if he can skate and get the puck either out of the zone or to Zellweger to get it out, that will be good enough. BUT, the caveat to that is I'd only take him if scouts feel he will be average/slightly below average offensively but elite defensively (basically the best defensively at the top end of the draft).
Then why isn't Dickinson in the conversation? He's 6'3 (6'2.75"), 203 lbs, wingspan of 78.75" (tied at 10th longest for all the NHL combine participants), shutdown d-man, plays physical, is a great 4-way skater, and according to
UpSideHockey, "blessed with speed that's near-elite-at 6'3"."
Dickinson
D-1 (age 16): 62 games, 9g + 14a = 23 pts (0.37 ppg rate), and a +5 rating
D+0 (age 17): 68 games, 18g + 52a = 70 pts (1.03 ppg rate), and a +56 rating
Granted, Sam was on stacked team with London in the OHL, but he was with London in his D-1 season too. That's some serious development offensively and defensively. He's a shutdown D who developed his offense.
Whichever d-man we draft, they're much lower on the PP totem pole due to already having Zell and Minty in the NHL. Even LaCombe looked amazing in his only game as a PP1 QB, he notched two PP assists staying near the blue line like a traditional PP QB.
