Depends what's available for trade I guess
If they can get a legit goalie like Saros for it, then trade the pick…of course that depends on whether the FO is willing to do anything needed to win these next two seasons with Sid and Geno…if they’re even half hearted about it, as Hextall was, then make the pick

There should be zero temptation to deal the pick, imo. Not gonna land you somebody who helps in the short or long term, so roll the dice and get to work restocking this abysmal ass prospect cupboard.

Some dude with huge upside will fall, they always do. Just hoping this team won't be one of the ones passing on a potential stud for the next Hugh Jessiman.
Genuinely curious what the mandate will be for the next GM. I assume win now given they brought the core back, but who knows.

Hopefully something comes out here over the next few days about a direction for the team. Or the new GM (when they get hired) tips their hand a bit there.

Still hoping the scouting department gets a complete overhaul over the next several months too. It's probably too late to do it with the draft creeping up, but it's time for some new eyes cuz, uhhhhh, these f***in' people have been doing a real shit job at the pro and amateur level.

If we could get a top 10 pick in this draft by trading Guentzel, would you do it?
Yes. A top-10 pick and a good/great prospect and I'm ripping that band-aid off.

I really think this team has to move the guy before the TDL next year, and might as well be at the draft. You're not getting a better fit or better production in a Jake trade so load up on the best return of futures you can get.

We can pick 15th by the way. It would require someone below us to win the draft lottery.

Extremely unlikely but given how painful this season has been can't leave that out as a possibility lol

If Sully stays we're sellers next year so there's a good chance that happens.

Maybe if Logan Cooley was coming with it.

Possibly for Fantilli.

And also it depends on Guentzel contract.

A lot to think about. Good question.

No clue if I’m accurate, I don’t profess to know how NHL organisations scout and draft, but I seem to recall reading an article where teams tend to have around half a dozen players on their board around their projected pick. My concern would be that the Pens seem to think that they were winning the Cup this year and so they really like someone around #32. Probably have very little scouting around where we pick.

That on top of the possible changes coming to the front office is concerning to me too.

I would take someone who can skate, no more jagoffs with any skating issues, someone at least 6'1, 6' 2" and someone with high hockey iq. Who on that list fits?

If no one, then Heidt.

Well I have good news. If they just take the next best player on the NHL CSS list they have a better chance of getting a good player than trying to do it themselves.

They literally just need to take a name from a list but I would be surprised if that stops them from reaching.

that works if the pick is high enough. it's the lower picks where it get harder.

The good news is they have all playoffs to watch tape and catch up.

But it would not surprise me if this team's organizational woes extended into the scouting departments.

You might be correct but doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. What happens when you have an opportunity to sign or trade for that guy down the line? Also good to scout everyone even if they’re out of your reach to have a baseline to compare guys you like against.

Pretty bad GMing if true. They should be scouting everyone.

Yeah. They should be pretty much aware of everyone in the first round, or at least the consensus.
