There is approaching 0 downside to taking Michkov if he miraculously falls into the team's lap. The upside is so high that it's not even worth worrying about the potential that he never plays in the NHL.

The vast majority of this team's picks never play in the NHL, and they haven't had an impact guy come up through the system since Jake, Rust and Murray in like 2017.

If Michkov falls and the Pens pass on him, that would be every bit as infuriating, if not more so, than picking Pouliot over Forsberg.

This is a really good draft to be picking ~14. I strongly believe we’ll have options there that would be shoe-in top-10 picks most years. If Yager falls due to not having exploded production-wise this year, we take that to the bank.

Yeah Yaver would be a very good pick. Still say we trade it.

Reinbacher looks intriguing in highlight packages. I mean, everyone does, but the Swiss-A is a pretty strong league.

regards to the question in op, if reinbacher is there (i doubt it) he’d be my pick. but realistically, i’d go yager (mackinnon potential), or Simashev (more physical, less offensive sergachev).

The Russian negatives are real but also a good reason to scout them hard. If other teams are thinking the same (they are) you’ll have access to discounted talent throughout the entire draft.

->Nashville ends up with 1 more point than us
->I heard Bettman gifts lotteries to the Pens so we win the lottery which gives us the 4th pick
-> Pittsburgh select generational player Matvei Michkov who is almost on Bedard's level because other teams are afraid of picking him because the few years left in his KHL contract
-> 2025 we have a new superstar in a town, and first years when he is 21-24 he plays with elc contract.

 The one lotto sim I clicked had the Pens jumping up 10 spots to grab Carlsson at 4th overall. I would love to see the hockey world react to that one. The stud, 6'3" center prospect would also be cool, I guess.
I haven’t won one yet with the Pens (moved up 10). A lot of Philadelphia and Washington.

I decided to take a quick snapshot of 14th overall picks from 2015-2020. That means these picks have had at least two years of drafting and development time to make the NHL. Anyone picked from 2020-now has maybe not had enough time yet. Anyways, here's how that looks:

Jake Debrusk
Charlie Mcavoy
Cal Foote
Joel Farabee
Cam York
Dylan Holloway

Some interesting names there. Seems like a pretty good shot at an impact player if we keep that pick. An equivalent to Farbee, Mcavoy, or Debrusk would all be quite nice for this team. Unfortunately thte pick would probably take at least two more years to get here, meaning it might not impact us in time to help this core out.

Interesting decision this summer as to whether to keep this pick or not.

As much as I’m tempted to trade the pick, I am curious to see who the Penguins select with it and how that player pans out. At some point we need to build through the draft and the Pens don’t exactly have a great track record lately. Now would be as good a time as any to build.

Nice names and this year is a deeper draft. To be honest, it should be a no brainer, that pick should not be moved or even consider being moved. Trade roster players and try to go get another 1st if you ask me!!

I see one impact player on that list.

Trade it.

Is Craig Patrick is involved in the hockey ops side? send him and his 4 leaf clover from 05 to the lottery and cut a full on heel promo if we win "YOU DAMN RIGHT WE RIGGED THIS, THE f*** ARE YOU WHINNY LITTLE INTERNET MARKS GONNA DO"?!

There should be zero temptation to deal the pick, imo. Not gonna land you somebody who helps in the short or long term, so roll the dice and get to work restocking this abysmal ass prospect cupboard.

Some dude with huge upside will fall, they always do. Just hoping this team won't be one of the ones passing on a potential stud for the next Hugh Jessiman.
