With Andrew Ladd ending his career, only 3 Atlanta Thrashers are left

Funny, I was coming to this thread to heap praise on the team name, logos, and jerseys.

The name was rooted in the area, and it's unique. "Thrashers" sounds distinct and aggressive. I think they had some of the best looking sweaters, too. The vibrant colours were amazing. And the name and logo are both cool and original.
I hated that the Thrashers had to go away for the Jets to return. I liked a lot about the Atlanta Thrashers.

Kane will likely be the last active former Thrasher.

Gigeure was the last Whaler
Doan was the last original Jet

Was Forsberg the last Nordique (who actually played for the Nordiques mind you) to play in the NHL?

Ripped from Wikipedia:

"The last active NHL player who played for the Nordiques was Adam Foote who announced his retirement after the 2010–11 season. The last active player in any league was Martin Rucinsky, who announced his retirement after the 2014–15 season while playing in the Czech Extraliga."

I think Forsberg played came back late in 10-11 (February) and retired after two games or so. Foote played his last game in April.

Pretty sure Tim Thomas was the last Nordiques draft pick to play in the NHL but he obviously never played for them.

Yeah, Forsbergs aborted comeback is what made me think of it. I thought Foote has retired the year before though.

I have yet to figure out what a “Red Wing” is. Or why a New York team is named for a Texas law enforcement agency (alright, it comes from the first owner “Tex” Rickard but still….). Plus it always struck me as strange in 1972 the Nixon dirty tricks people smeared Ed Muskie by falsely claiming he used the word “Canucks” yet the Vancouver team has that nickname.
You can’t have tried too hard to figure out the Red Wing reference. A quick Google search and 2 minutes of reading would clear that right up. I’ll post a link to just one of many stories below. Feel free to read up on others.
Link: How the Detroit NHL Team Became the Red Wings
In 1932, millionaire James Norris bought the team. In his youth, he had played on the MAAA Winged Wheelers team that won the first Stanley Cup in 1893. The MAAA was a sporting club that sponsored many types of sports, including cycling, which was the origin of the winged wheel logo worn by all MAAA athletes. Norris thought the winged wheel was a perfect logo for the Motor City, so a version of that logo in red was adopted and the club was renamed the Red Wings.

I'm more amazed that it's been 11 years since they moved to Winnipeg. The Thrashers were also in Atlanta for 11 seasons.

Somehow, I'm sure only the Thrashers could have a guy with 98pts, 97pts, and 92pts, in the same season, and manage to miss the playoffs.

They've only been gone for 11 years, too. Puts into perspective how brief the average NHL career is.

If this were the NBA they would have won a championship with just those 3 players.

Stapleton & Wheeler on Atlanta:

blake was in atlanta for like a month

tim was there for less than a season

very poor examples to speak of

The Thrashers consisently outdrew the Hawks and had decent attendance until the end when the writing was on the wall re the franchise

Atlanta is a superior city to the prarie wasteland known as Winnipeg and an Atlanta NHL team would be as well received as Atlanta United which is the highest attended MLS team.

1. Why are you comparing the Thrashers to a O6 team in a top 3 market in the states. Atlanta isn't that, and the Thrashers don't have that kind of history in the NHL. The Hawks while having poor attendance during that period have had other period where that wasn't the case, before and after. Compare them to teams in similar markets with similar lack of league history.

2. The Thrashers were always in the bottom 10 in attendance except for their debut season (they had the 11th best attendance in their inaugural season and then bottom 10 every year after that).

3. Those prarie wastelands while not the same market size as Atlanta draw significantly more people AINEC. Atlanta should have a team, but more like the Coyotes, they had a decade to show their support and were bottom 10 in attendance for pretty much their entire existence.

It's a bird. Lots of sports teams are named after birds. Before I knew it was a bird, I thought it was bad too, but bird names are typically okay

If you didn't know what a Thrasher was, you'd go, what? But, so long as the locals know what it is that is fine. Like the Canucks. People in the US wouldn't know what that is.

I never understood why they opted for a Blue jersey with their alternate logo. I mean, their main logo would have looked fine on either a Red jersey or if they wanted to still go with the dark blue one, it would have been fine on that as well.
