way too many sloppy decisions with the puck. Can’t even say it was due to Seattle either with many unforced. They can clean that up. Scoreboard won’t show it but they had a really good third period push.
For the most part, the Ice had Seattle shooting from the outside, while the Thunderbirds were letting Winnipeg shoot from close range. Take those two missteps (ie: Lambert goals) away, it would have been a different game.

Not to make excuses for the ICE, but a third period non call was a huge factor, the TBirds scored two quick goals pretty well right after that. In a game that close (I don't think Seattle was dominating as some might suggest, although there were stretches where the ICE had real trouble with zone entries and maintaining any prolonged offensive pressure), something like that is going to be a back breaker. The PP wasn't great so it's not like the call would have directly resulted in an ICE goal, but the two quick Seattle goals would have been unlikely.

Benson was unreal for the ICE, he was a force at both ends of the ice. Unreal backchecking from him all game long. His line had a ton of time but 9 was by far the biggest factor of the three.

On to Seattle for game 3... hopefully the ICE can iron out their wrinkles.

The ICE’s weakness all season has been their defence and that was the case again last night. They’re just not a good defensive team.

Also I’m upset we have no shot at drafting Benson. He’s so good.

Yeah, it was tough watching Luke Prokop doing his thing in the playoffs against the ICE for the second post-season in a row... last year with Edmonton, this year with Seattle. He's exactly the kind of big, rugged d-man the ICE needed to shore up the blue line. Sward and Wilson were decent adds, but Wilson has been mostly neutralized by injuries. It's tough to win when you're giving a guy like Prosofsky huge minutes on the back end. The guy has heart and I respect him, but if you see an ICE defensive mistake, chances are good that he's behind it.

Considering how things shook out in the playoffs last season, it's surprising that ICE management couldn't pull of a deal for a top-tier defenseman along the lines of how they landed Dawson Barteaux in 2019-20.

55... cough cough...

Karter... cough cough...

You beat me to it.

It's been this way with him pretty well all season. At one point 55 was there mostly to provide some muscle. Since coming back from his absence, though, he has been getting huge minutes on a regular basis. But I'm not sure that he can handle that assignment.

I actually think the ICE PP was really really good. Entries were the issue but once they were set up it was really dynamic. Mostly set up through number 9 ofc

You're right, there was some crisp passing once the ICE managed to get by the TBirds wall (not an easy task) but it didn't translate into many great scoring chances. 94 in particular seemed to be having a tough go with a lot of misfires, I'm assuming he just didn't have enough time or open shooting lanes to get it done. Either way, 0/5 on the PP against a team like Seattle is not ideal.

That 7 pm start time on Monday will mean a quick dash to Canada Life Centre after the Centennial Cup Final in Portage at 3 pm, but I'm up for a challenge, ha ha.

I wouldn't say no shot. It's not inconceivable that Chevy makes a big trade or two before draft day that might get us into range. I would put it closer to a 0.000001 % chance of getting Benson.

Craig Button ranked Benson 14th overall in his list that just came out. (Which is interesting, because I am used to seeing him in the top 10.) So not out of the question that the Jets could get their hands on him if that's truly where he stands, it's certainly a lot higher than a millionth of a percent!!

Buttons list is mostly irrelevant. Benson would’ve been top 5-8 if he played at the U18 (button loves his short tournaments)

Lambert looking really really good for a future Jets prospect. He's got great speed, a good stickhandler, can lead a rush, and pick the top corners of the net. Looking great as a Jets prospect. Hope he makes the team this upcoming season.

True North should throw them a bone and tarp off the upper section of Canada life and let the ice play there. In the lower bowl.
Honest question here… was that a FU from Chipman and TNSE making them dress out of the visitors locker room? Or was it Wheeler telling them to get off his lawn?!

I really feel like their marketing/promo team has fumbled the bag on this.
How so? Bear in mind they only had a few days to sell tickets, with the venue change in all likelihood only green lighted after the Moose got bounced out of the AHL playoffs. Moving north of 3,000 tickets per game in just a few days is no small feat. I thought they did a pretty good job all things considered. Even the game presentation was good considering there wasn't much time to prepare for it.

I have a lot of people tell me they actively watch lots of hockey, read the paper, etc and have never seen an ad for them.

They used to advertise in the Free Press until the Great Falling Out around Christmas, haha. It was right around that time that Mike Sawatzky stopped covering the team and Josh Frey-Sam took over, I assume Mike became persona non grata around that time. And at one point they used to advertise on electronic billboards in South Winnipeg, but that also ended.

The only place left where I notice ads for the ICE other than during actual ICE games on 1290 is on Virgin Radio.

So...vibe check for game 3. How we feeling? Are the ICE ready to kick it into high gear now that they have figured out proper zone entry technique against Seattle? Or will BIG BAD BRAD and his good buddy, the notorious ICE tormentor Spicy Dyl skate circles around the ICE defenders?
