Not a great performance by the ICE against a weaker opponent. They had many chances that they failed to capitalize on including multiple breakaways. Tons of turnovers and miscues kept giving Victoria chances too. This one could have easily slipped away on them, and it almost did with the Royals clawing back to within one late in the third.
Dawson Cowan played a better game than he did against Moose Jaw, it was nice to see him come up big a few times even if it started falling apart in the 3rd period when he let in two goals.
I see Karter Prosofsky has been back in the lineup for the last week or so, but he hasn't actually played yet. I will be interested in seeing him back on the ice after almost a year away, and I'd be curious to hear about what happened that caused his prolonged absence. We don't get too many ICE stories in the local media, but maybe the one guy who does cover them regularly, Mike Sawatzky of the Free Press, will write something up.
Very sparse looking crowd in Victoria, it was announced at 2,301 but it looked like it was maybe half that. It seems that a lot of WHL teams have taken major post-pandemic attendance hits... the only ICE game I've seen so far this season with a crowd that looked too big for Wayne Fleming Arena was the season opener in Brandon.
