The Red Wings could manage his development better at GR, as they can kinda tell GR what they want for the player and expect them to do it.

Can't really do that with Skellefta.

Emmitt Finnie with a 4 point game tonight.

I'm only stat-watching, but he's having a good start to the season. What's his downside/upside?
Upside could be a legit bottom 6 speedy scorer. He's improved so much with his speed/puck skill/shot since the 2023 draft. He's got 24 points in 14 games now - him and 2025 eligible Behm are leading the charge for the Blazers this season. I think it's pretty cool he's got the captaincy as a 7th round pick too

Downside? AHL scorer in some capacity. Can't complain for the improvements he's made for where he was drafted

How speedy is he?

Are we perhaps looking at a Darren Helm 2.0?

I believe he improved towards end of the last season season. To me he is not as good as Danielson, but he's only 19 .

He was so good at the prospect camps this summer so it's nice to see that carry over. I think it's more than a "good" start tbh. Nearly every guy who is outscoring him in the WHL are the small, pure scoring types. Finnie's got good size and speed so there's a clear path to being a pro player even if he doesn't make it in a scoring role.

Watched Finnie as a Midget player, like many I have seen he was a real player that had a shoulder first mentality when going in the offensive zone. Of the literally hundreds of gifted kids that I have watched over the years that fall into this category, almost all of them never get the size needed to become NHL or even pro players.

When the wings signed him last year, he was playing in the 190+ pounds at 18, he has the size he needs to go with the tools he has.

For upside, I would consider him a middle 6 forward, more likely 3rd line, but you never know, he has some room to grow physically and with his game, maybe he reaches into a smaller power forward type if he gets into the 220 pound range as he grows out.

I project his downside would be a AHL/NHL tweener, but I do look forward to the day both he and MBN are in the wings lineup in a few years.

I expect him to be one of the later round hits that the wings will need and the timing will be right.

No and he's a bit of a different player than Helm too. Finnie actually has some puck possession to his game, he's not a quick rush type guy necessarily. He can skate really well, but Helm is a guy that's skating will get talked about as an all timer speed wise. Off the top of my. head I cant think of a good comp for Finnie, he does a bit of everything really well. He's not a pest per se but can be annoying at times

Yeah, he is a player...does most things right and has an edge to his game without crossing the line, leads with the shoulder and not afraid to get into it, with enough skill to pass or shoot. If I had to guess, I would say he read the book, "Hockey, here's Howe". Hard to get a real comparison for him until he grows out, but he is just a real good all around player.

SY said the team needs players...I think he will fit that bill, maybe he is more the type of player that is more noticeable in the playoffs than regular season?

Descriptions and bits and pieces I've seen, is he's tracking for a peak-Cleary. 20+20 middle 6 guy, that yeah, excels at nothing but is bad at nothing.

Which would be massive from a 7th round pick.
