the thing to watch for besides Hamonic's individual play is Kleven's play. I think Kleven has been playing good hockey of late. If that goes off a cliff then there are two problems at play
I don't disagree. I thought they looked okay previously. And I'm not going to die on the sword for Hamonic, but much like last year, he's being viewed through a lens of being thrust into a role he never should be in and was set up to fail. He should be playing 40-50 games all below 15 minutes and anything above that is the coach doing him a disservice imo.

I think blaming Hamonic has become a reflex reaction. He isn't good, but he's not as bad as some are making it out to be (last year he was though)
That's how I feel. I have no judgement of him on the top pairing because I don't expect him to succeed there. I think that criticism is fine, because that's where Green has put him, but also should basically have an asterisk that he shouldn't really be expected to be succeeding in that role. Lets assess him based on playing on the bottom pairing in the low teens for ice time.
This is no where close to as bad as DJ slotting Zaitsev with Chabot over Demelo.

Its a lean towards the vet in a 6/7 decision. Its 1 game at this time with Zub coming back in. JBD played well enough to have gotten the nod .

I'd like to see the player with the future get the reigns but .. we will see how it goes and when JBD comes back in.
Ya, I'd have liked to see JBD stick. A little disappointed this was the decision, but also don't think it's egregious or "moronic" like some do.

See i can somewhat agree with this. He should be playing about every other game and if he can play good hockey during those games, then great, if not he sits out more. These coaches just fall in love with the veterans because they say the right thing but actual game play should be looked at first

1. Hamonic (consistent problem)
2. Bringing down Klevens play but more importantly his confidence considering he is a rookie.

I understand the concept of insulating with veterans but that only works if the veterans can play
Ahhhh.

Like TheNewEra mentioned he directly and indirectly causes issues for whoever he plays with.
I think that's overblown in a true bottom pairing role.

Yes, and every coach does it, regardless of the team I follow, so I've come to live with it.

Hamonic playing over JBD?

Even Martin benched Hamonic. Wtf does Green see in Hamonic's on ice play. So tired of seeing opposing teams just dump or carry the puck towards where he is.

its not un-common BicBie..

You know how life works! 1/3 of all people love you, 1/3 hate you and 1/3 are neutral to you.

Green comes in and takes a likening to him. So he plays him.. He may not have taken a liking to JBD.

You see it everywhere. I use to dread a new boss or a boss above him.. I never wanted to take a chance on the new guy and me falling into the 1/3 don't like. I saw it plenty.

It was the same in sports. A new coach every year (minor sports) and you could go from star treatment, to benching, to being cut.

Its why the transfer portal in US college sports is hot. Players want out because often enough, they do not get along with the coach.

Or it might even be Staios not liking JBD. Green is smart enough to know that and keeps him of the ice.

FWIW, here is Green's quote on it from TSN today.

“I’ve liked both guys games," Green said of the decision. "Obviously, Hammer has been playing with (Sanderson) playing against a lot of good players in the league. As anyone knows, when you’re in the top four you’re playing against the top players. When you’re in the bottom pairing, you’re usually a little more protected with your ice time. They’ve both played well.”

So, it is a coaching issue!

"THEY BOTH PLAYED WELL" through the Head Coach's eyes.

Lol, well, I expected him to say that regardless. Don't think there's much value in that quote, but saw it and felt like posting.

It's kind of pointless trying to assess Hamonic on the top pairing anyways, since he shouldn't be there and everyone knows that.
"EVERYONE" except for Green and his D coach. :)

He also said Ullmark's played well so yeah, he's a very diplomatic guy lol.

Lol. Well, the options aren't exactly a slam dunk I think is a bit of the problem. JBD has also had his share of doubters and shaky play, even though it appears he's a better fit beside Kleven.

I think what happens with JBD this summer will be telling as far as what the org thinks about him. I think this will be his last season in Ottawa. If they qualify him, won't he then have arb rights?

He also said Ullmark's played well so yeah, he's a very diplomatic guy lol.
Lol, ya as I said after, not much to be taken from it and expected him to say as such, but wanted to post since there was a direct quote from the man himself on what is basically the most hotly debated subject on this board in Hammer.

It's Chris Phillips all over again.

Pretty sure its when we benched Phillips is when the team went on the Hamburglar run.

Does he not know that Hamonic sucks on the bottom pairing too? A goal against on the bottom pairing is worth the same as a goal against on the top pairing.

Gil,

What would happen if you were a media guy at those scrums? You would need a body guard wouldn't you?

I can just see you walking up to Hamonic " So Hamburger, were you always a pilon?"
