Which players on Denver are dragging Mazur's numbers up this season? :sarcasm:

Mastrosimone with two goals for ASU

Really happy to see this. I liked the Mastrosimone pick at the time, had him ranked higher than most for a while, and was pretty disappointed when his development dropped off, especially after losing his spot at the WJC due to Covid. Glad things are starting off well at ASU, even if it's too little too late for his chances with Detroit.

Ethan Phillips with a nice goal last night.

This goal might have been from the game prior, but this one was clean

Pretty great showing for DET in our U23 poll series. Seider had the most votes of any player, so ends up on the top pairing. He will be there next year too, I am guessing.

Raymond made the 2nd line of the forward group.

Cossa got votes as an HM for goalie but didn't quite make the cut. He's 19, though, so he was always going to be in tough.

Is there anyone you think will jump into contention to make the team in the current pool?

The obvious guys for the future who should/could be knocking on the door for this list are Simon Edvinsson and Marco Kasper, depending on how this season goes for them.

Yes, Edvisson was getting some chatter but obviously a bit too young to unseat any of those guys on D.

Is 2023-23 his expected arrival? Might be a couple years before he cracks the team, but I could see it.

Edvinsson is a bit of a wild card in the sense that his range of outcomes is wider than you might expect for a top prospect with a high floor and who is in the AHL. Or at least it feels that way given how much he's discussed around here!

Upside: Top pair, #1-caliber, all situations, can QB a PP and defend with the best of them.

Likely floor: Top-4 defensive defenseman with very good puck-moving ability but doesn't generate a ton of offense.

As with anything, the end result will likely be somewhere in between these outcomes. If it's closer to the former, he should be sniffing around that U23 roster sooner rather than later. If it's closer to the latter, he maybe tops out as an HM.

As for ETA, I think most would agree that he should see time in Detroit this season, and possibly (likely?) be a regular by the end of the season. Should easily be a full-time starter by opening night in 2023, unless his development really goes off the rails.

Kasper is obviously further away, but he's already showing that his upside is probably a bit higher than most thought on draft day. It feels like his chances of exceeding his daft position are higher than most players recently picked in that range.

A couple other guys who maybe don't have quite the same upside but who are closer in proximity and some believe have a sneaky high ceiling are Elmer Soderblom (likely debuting tomorrow night) and Albert Johansson (likely debuting sometime this season). A couple "watch list" guys who probably don't crack that U23 roster, but if everything breaks right could be in the discussion next year.

I guess I'm in the minority then, since I don't see Edvinsson with a top pair ceiling.

I mean, maybe a low end 1B, but I see him topping out as a very good #3 on a championship contender. Skates well, passes well, but not a guy I'd want getting 25+ minutes or facing do-or-die situations.

Nothing wrong with that, and I expect him to be a very helpful piece of the puzzle. I'm just not as bullish on him as others are.
