I wouldn't base much on that for 19-20 year olds playing against men, it's literally the easiest weakness to improve. Elias Pettersson used to go down from the slightest contact, sometimes simply from shooting the puck.

I'm just going to say this right now for those saying, "But you don't know!"

Just...watch him.

Niederbach has the brains of a 1st liner. Hands of a 2nd liner. Speed of a career AHLer and the physical build of a 17 year old. Sound like anyone whose name rhymes with Hirose?

Before his draft year Niederbach had a devastating case of osteochondritis that caused him to miss his entire D minus 1 season. His skating was still good enough for him to put up a great performance in the J20 in his D+1 but since he was drafted by Detroit it has not improved much, if at all. He still appears as fast at 20 as he was at 18. It's very likely that his skating has plateaued because of the osteochondritis.

I mean, what is location, really
You're also forgetting that he tends to get ragdolled by 5'10" SHL players and loses just about any physical battle.

I really see Niederbach as a guy that turns into a Hirose, Linus Ulmark, Max Veronneau type. An AAAA level player wearing the gold helmet for his team as top scorer in a league like NLA or Liiga, but just not quite good enough to make it to the NHL for anything more than a cup of coffee.
Ullmark got 40 NHL games last year, so it seems like he's doing alright. Definitely won't ever be a top scorer, though. More of a shot blocker.

The reason I doubt he's a bottom liner in the NHL is the lack of any outstanding physical skill. Bottom liners can and often do get by on plus level athleticism; great skating ala Darren Helm. Great checking ability and defensive tenacity like LGD. Being that rare enforcer modern type like Deslauriers or Reaves.

A guy that might be very generously listed at 5'11" 172lbs who is not very fast or tenacious on the forecheck and bounces off everyone like a pinball just isn't going to cut it. Niederbach is definitely one of Detroit's prospects I would have as a throw in on a trade.
I figured he might just be a sam gagner type with hustle, hockey IQ, but lacking physical skills

I really see Niederbach as a guy that turns into a Hirose, Linus Omark, Max Veronneau type. An AAAA level player wearing the gold helmet for his team as top scorer in a league like NLA or Liiga, but just not quite good enough to make it to the NHL for anything more than a cup of coffee.
Don't think he has the raw skill of an Omark. But he's more reliable defensively, plays smart hockey. Last season really wasn't bad for him, but you have to put the numbers in context to understand them. 10-12 minutes per game, no powerplay. His even strength production was similar to Raymond's d+1.

I'm not super high on Niederbach but as long as a prospect isn't showing stagnation/regression I'm not too concerned. It's obviously a big season coming up for him, and it starts with hopefully being one of Sweden's star players at the WJC.

I'm hoping that Niederbach can take that next step in Rogle. He is in a great spot to get a top 9 position on that team and they play a very up-tempo offensive attacking system when compared to Frolunda who are more about holding the puck for as long as possible until they can get the perfect scoring chance.

I am sure if Datsyuk and Zetterberg were to listen to you guys, they would have never played in the NHL.

171st and 210th respectively, and superstars. I know it was different back in those times but still.

Come on guys, tell us who are your real Datsyuks and Zetterbergs and stop being sheep and following the Shepherd:popcorn:

That’s…a lot more advertisements on their jerseys than previous seasons…
It's only a matter of time in our corporate world until NHL jerseys look like that. It starts with a emblem on the helmet. Then the pizza-pizza guy appears as a shoulder patch....in a decade there will be more ads on the jerseys than the sideboards. It will look like Ricky Bobby's racing coat.
