No Shutout tonight but the Oil Kings win 5-4 in OT in Red Deer... 18 Saves on 22 Shots... EDM up 3-0 in the Series

He did have the Secondary Assist on the OT GWG... 2nd Assist of the Series lol

7-0 1.41 GAA .938 SV% 3 SO so far
So a 0.818 saver percentage. Eh could be better

Red Deer seems to be a better team offensively than the other teams Edmonton has played so far so we can really see what Cossa is made of as the opponents get tougher the further his team goes in the WHL and other MJHL playoffs.

I care about getting good players, and don’t really care where they’re from.

We just had 2 kids compete for the Calder, 2 kids picked while Draper was running the Amateur scouting department.

I know this board lives in a world where Hakan watches all the European players and 0 seconds of anyone else, and Draper watches North American players and 0 seconds of anyone else, and they just live in these silos and not part of a highly collaborative unit… but that’s not the real world. Draper’s job is to take information from ALL his scouts and present that to the GM. And a lot of times the NA alternative to the Euro player hasn’t been the optimal choice where we’ve been picking for a number of reasons.
Even if the scenerio was true, which it's emphatically not. We all still should respect Draper for putting the organizations success above his own ego.

Wallstedt has seen 6 shots in 20 minutes of play in the playoffs. He had a mop-up period from what I see in the stats.

How does this compare to Cossa's being the starter? SHL is a higher tier league, but Wallstedt isn't the starter.

Lulea is a veteran team in the SHL championship. Wallstedt is the unproven kid who had a good year. They leaned on their veteran. That's all it says about him.

I'd like to see how Cossa would do in the SHL, to be honest. And Rogle is definitely a team that needs a real pro caliber goalie. It's probably the one thing on their team that cost them another run to the final.

How cool would it be to see something like European Football to have feeder teams. Rogle or Frolunda set-up as our feeder team so we could send our prospects to them on a free transfer. Anything in CBA to prohibit that?

I honestly don't know. We have Albert Johansson under contract but he's on loan to Farjestad so I hope we can do something like that. The SHL would be a great place for Cossa to learn.

Not a good final 2 games for Cossa statistics wise. He has fallen to #3 in the WHL playoff goalie rankings as a result.

Winnipeg would be a good test for Cossa.

Cossa and Edmonton complete the sweep with a 4-2 Win in Game 4 and head to the Eastern Conference Finals... 14 Saves

So through 2 Series... 8-0 1.48 GAA .932 SV 3 SO
Winnipeg is a younger team, I think EOK veteran experience will help them out. EOK 4-2, will be a good test for Cossa.

It's difficult to compare. Cossa wouldn't be starting in the SHL either. So it's more of a philosophical question about development, do you prefer 60 games at a junior level or 20-25 games at a pro level?

For goalies it's really all about getting reps in game. You'd rather dominate at 60 games in the lower level than sit on the bench at the higher level and not get consistent starts. But honestly Wallstedt's development is out of Minnesota's hands until he signs a contract and either starts playing the AHL or is loaned back to Lulea to get starter's minutes. So until Minnesota does something with him, Lulea will use him how they see fit with no real urgency to give him a starter role. Lassinantti is only 29 and has been performing very well this year, taking them to the SHL finals.

But yeah...it's all about reps for young goaltenders...and prospects in general. That's why we kept Berggren down in GR instead of calling him up with the first injury, this year.

At the same time many successful NHL goalies have come through similar backgrounds of not playing a whole lot of games.
There's a reason goalie development is so unpredictable..

I agree. Prospect development, in general, is normally not very linear. But you can't get experience doing something unless you are actually doing it. And the number of people in your set of conditions is probably more in the "exception to the norm" kind of situation. It's possible...but there is also just getting practical game experience.

I think Sebrango was done a huge disservice by assigning him to the AHL this season.

He should have been a dominant force on the blue line for the Rangers this season. Playing 30+ minutes in all situations and gaining confidence to use his entire skill set.

Sebrango never really conquered/outplayed his league. He was only ever an average OHL player.

Did we rush Raymond. What about Edvinsson for next season.
