That is exactly why I wanted Detroit to draft him, although in the 3rd or 4th round.
We need a big mean nasty f***er on defense and that is exactly what he is.
I hope he makes it and if he does the days of teams taking cheap shots at Larkin will be over.
Just imagine Cleveland running over Benn and beating the shit out of Joseph.

It says something about the mental state of the fanbase that Cleveland is discussed far more than Pellikka, Kasper, Cossa, Mazur or any other prospects who are doing well.

it's tough to care much if a prospect is doing well when the WIngs clearly don't and it doesn't really even have any correlation with when/if they get called up
like what are we gonna do? openly root for a half dozen simultaneous injuries so we can see them before they need waivers? that feels a bit callous towards all the vets that would need to be injured for someone like Edvinsson to actually see the ice, it's not like it's their fault Yzerman has zero interest in playing any prospects
meanwhile a wasted 2nd round pick that can't even do so much as put up even 1 point in College is something almost everyone can get behind

If my math is right, Augustine is facing an AVERAGE of 35 shots per game. That's a ton of action for a team competing for a conference championship to be giving up. But kudos to the kid for having such a great season - hopefully he can keep the momentum going.

See I actually see it as most of our legit prospects having pretty good years. Anyone after round 3 I basically take with a grain of salt because 90% of them won't make the NHL.
2nd round picks should be a bit better than they have been but overall most of the Wings "Legit" prospects have had decent or above average years. We just aren't getting a ton of home run late round picks doing well.

Dylan James wasn't an overager. He was a late birthday, one of the oldest first year draft eligibles. And he's having a solid year playing his role, just not going to be a big counting stats guy in the NCAA on a stacked UND team. He could very easily be a solid PK bottom 6 type in the league.

Ah my bad on the overage bit. Do you think James will look better offensively with hopefully more playing time next year or will that not ever be his game? Guys getting buried in the NCAA is certainly not unheard of. Savage has made a big leap this year after switching teams and getting more responsibility.

It depends on what UND's roster looks like next year. With Gaber likely turning pro, more ice time to be had. But Swanson & Boisvert coming in will make things quite competitive, plus Blake could go back for another year (especially if UND doesn't win the national title) instead of signing with Carolina (where he might not be able to crack the Hurricanes' lineup very quickly).
James should be in for a production jump next year, but he's likely in the Darren Helm type of NHL production if he makes it. 25-35 points per year, gets breakaways, plays PK, not the type you pay beyond RFA years but a cheap useful depth player. He's a mix of Maltby, Draper, and Helm IMHO. Probably equal chance he makes it to be a 300 game NHLer versus complete bust, AHLer/European Pro career guy.
I think it's been overall a solid year for prospects - salvaged by the Griffins playing really well. Best development by far IMO is Cossa and Augustine. I'd say right behind is Kasper emerging in GR and Danielson looking a lot more explosive since being traded.
Solid is being extremely generous. Kasper in his D+2 year in the AHL being under .5 ppg is underwhelming, and I'm a huge Kasper fan. Danielson hasn't been as dominant as an 2004 as you would have liked also. ASP and Augustine have been great but other than that, there isn't much to get excited about. It's hard to trust the judgement of your scouting department who chose Brady Cleveland in the 2nd round.

Emitt Finnie's stats are actually a lot better on closer inspection than they look at first glance
slightly below point per game isn't fantastic as a D+1 forward(albeit a decent improvement over last year) but he's actually on the bottom feeder people pretended Brandon was(Kamloops is the lowest scoring team in the WHL) and is leading his team in scoring by 16 points

I'm probably biased because I just saw him, but Kasper looks great out there. I know the counting stats aren't where we want them (of course he started with something like 1 point in 10 games) but he looks like a different player than last fall.

That isn't true. ASP and Cossa have their own thread. Cleveland hasn't really been discussed since the fan base tore apart management for drafting him in the 2nd. I am the one who brought up the topic. In part, it was to get a rise out of a particularly funny member (to me) who goes rabid at the mention of his name. That aside, I do believe the guy was drafted for a reason. He made the top junior team in the USA for a reason and yes, as stated above, he has had a disappointing first year at Wisconsin. This guy isn't built for college hockey, but it will help his skating and stick work. He won't likely be in the NHL for years. That said, I think he heads to the ECHL/AHL no later than his junior year. I do think those leagues better suit the "skill set" the Wings hope to gain from him.

He had 6 points in his 1st 20 which I don't think is completely insane considering he was coming off a major injury and was adjusting to the NA game.
21 points in his last 36 games is a pretty good pace. Kasper is going to take a bit of time to develop offensively. You can see the skill in his game, but it hasn't quite come together yet. With that said I think he's more in that 50-65 point range during his prime NHL years, but does everything else incredibly well. Danielson is our hope for another 70+ point center I think.
