I believe that superlatives are the biggest thing that bothers you.

Conversely, there are skill guys who make it with otherwise massive deficiencies in their game, but the skill is high enough to mitigate it. But I agree, a vast majority of the time, players need a requisite amount of both to make it in the NHL, at least long-term.
They make the HOF regularly. We just signed one of them not too long ago....

Grand Rapids being as dysfunctional as it is scares me a bit with Soderblom

if there's anyone that could come back and bite the Wings on via him breaking out on another team in a few years its him, and his ceiling is potentially ridiculous if he does end up doing that

I’ve said this for a while now. I hope we’re patient because I could easily see him being a late bloomer and taking off when he’s 25/26. I don’t want it to be with someone else.

I watched his highlights of last season the other day, and there’s a lot there. He does have legit skill. His reach is a big asset. He just needs greater consistency with his input and compete.

He's a skill player. He was top 10 in SHL goal-scoring the year before he came over. And he did that by being skillful not simply bulldozing guys with his size.

Is he an NHL level skill player? Not yet, if ever. But that doesn't mean he's anything other than what he is. A skill guy. People just can't get past the fact that he's got a foot and nearly 100lbs on some of the smaller guys in the league.
Well then he isn't a skill player, is he. We draft and develop players to play on an NHL club. If you aren't a "skill player" (I hate binary characterizations of players by the way) by NHL standards, you aren't a "skill player." What you are in the SHL, CHL, NCAA, AHL really doesn't matter (I guess unless you are primarily a fan of one of those lower leagues). Hell, 99% of NHL fourth liners were "skill players" at lower levels that changed the way that they played to stick in professional hockey.

Soderblom has relatively soft hands, but is not overly quick with the puck which is why he isn't a skill player at the NHL level where time and space is nonexistent. I wish he was self aware enough to know that his current style of play won't get him to the NHL.

Just looking at the volume of picks we’ve had over the last 6 years and how little we’ve done with it; our scouting staff should all be fired. It’s actually embarrassing.

We’ve had probably the most picks in the league in that span and essentially nothing to show for it. 2nd and 3rd round drafting is especially horrible.

Wings will never exit purgatory unless the scouting department and philosophy is overhauled.

You’re basically judging 1-2 years worth of data.

If you skip past 2019 (which was still mostly a Draper/Wright draft) the Wings haven't done terribly in the second round.

Wallinder, Mazur, Buchelnikov, Augustine all still have good NHL potential.

That must be a real weird feeling considering he's getting healthy scratched at UW right now.
Genuinely one of the more bizarre selections of all time. The guy even admitted right after the draft that he is a sixth defenceman. I mean, what were they honestly thinking?

I am not a Howard hater whatsoever but he is definitely not close to 500 wins lol.

Also, Mrazek is only at 150 wins or so at 31 years old. I HIGHLY doubt he hits 300 let alone 400.

Where are you getting your numbers from??
I think he meant games, which is more then likely and excellent for a 5th round pick. I mean I hope he meant games, otherwise. 🤔🙄😔

Brady Cleveland was a gag pick. Nothing about his game or projections were NHL level.

random side note but I noticed something kinda funny

haven't checked on Brady Cleveland in a while and went and noticed he has an impressively awful 0 points in 10 games so far with Wisconsin

....but then I noticed that Wisconsin has 3 non Goalies with 0 points this season and ALL three of them are Wings prospects(Owen Mehlenbacher has 0 in 7 games and Sam Stange has 0 in 3)

I am going to tell myself that we only need a couple to hit and then I am going to go find a scotch or 7.
