I thought I remember that Samuelsson was cleared for the playoffs. That would mean that he's not injured.

One potentially huge hurdle, though, as Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press pointed out over the weekend: Teams cannot use an amnesty on an injured player. And since Samuelsson continues to deal with the pectoral/shoulder injury that drove him out of the playoffs, doctors must first clear the aging forward before GM Ken Holland could consider sending him packing.

Also, Bob Mckenzie tweeted that all players getting bought out must pass through 24 hour waivers first so how would teams be able to contact any bought out players yet? Hell, apparently the only guys being bought out that are currently on waivers are Olesz, Montador, and Kaberle.
Unless a player has a NMC. They can essentially skip waivers.

The Wings have cleared Sammy though, so really it would be on him to find a doctor to dispute it. At which point it depends on how he would fail the physical. They might be mad enough to say hey you failed, guess what Sammy you're on LTIR and your never playing another game in Detroit regardless, enjoy your extra million you're done here.

The other thing about compliance buyouts if I understand this right is the Wings can now contact Vinny. So this isn't a wait and see option like classic Free Agents, he is one right now, they can get some of the parameters of what he wants down. Make promises to the agent.

It is said 15 teams have contacted Briere's agent, so these guys move a little differently than classic free agents. It is very possible the Wings know something almost immediately in terms of this and enter the draft with knowledge of that behind closed doors.

I believe that is incorrect. Although I'm not 100% certain. I don't think teams are allowed signing anyone to a contract right now until the signing period opens whether they are about to become a UFA, or if they already are.

I didn't read anything that prevented them from making contact with players agents, but they aren't allowed to meet with any UFA's until the day after the draft, and cannot sign them to a contract until the signing period happens a few days later.

From Exhibit 15 of the CBA - Critical Date Calendar
Day after the Entry Draft (but not later
than June 25) until June 30

Unrestricted Free Agents may meet and interview with
potential new Clubs, but may not sign new SPCs until
the opening of RFA/UFA Signing Period

So basically they can meet and talk about contracts but nothing can be signed for a few days.

what's with all the plane speculation anyways? free agency doesn't even start for another week

that would be some pretty obvious tampering don't you think?

Stalberg is borderline top 10 in the entire league in terms of speed. He is basically what I hope AA becomes (well I hope AA becomes better but that is kind of who I compare Greek Lightning to) and is 6'3" 210 lbs with some decent hands.

If they can sign Vinny I think they are pretty much done though, would have to move some things around.

Vinny will play center though, he doesn't like playing out on the wing. One of Datsyuk or Zetterberg will play wing.

They are allowed to have more open discussions was the point, without obvious tampering charges. It is very likely that Vinny will know his destination unless he wants the visits and the wine and dine process which he very well could. But nothing prevents them from really opening back channels here.

So it is a little different with these buyout guys, teams can contact them immediately and in my opinion they will have strong parameters in terms of what the contract can be. Nothing can officially be signed, I understand that angle.

Not later than June 25th is how I read that, guess what he can even accept meetings with that being the case if I read that correctly.

Didn't know about Vinny's distaste for Wing. I'm one of the minority that doesn't like Dats and Z together. I'd rather Z play on the Wing.

I know what he offers at center, but there is a reason Babs was trying Datsyuk at wing to start the year when they were together to start the season. They want to protect his wrist, I don't know what they will do. One interesting part is I almost certain in some series in the playoffs if Vinny was here they would run all three down the middle and create matchup nightmares for people.

I dont like em on the same line either.

They haven't been great on the same line but a part of the problem I have had is what it did to the second line. No such concern with Vinny there. The simple truth was Filppula was found wanting too often when we attempted that recently, basically a hot Franzen was the only thing allowing it at the tail end of the season run and we almost always had to break it up because of what it was doing to the team as a whole. They haven't had the 06-08 chemistry, but then again we haven't been able to stomach doing it for very long either. Vinny likes to shoot so don't know if they would try him and Zetterberg together, but both are great down low, they could cycle teams to death if that is what they choose to do.

Good luck with that, plus I think Vinny contract might push kids up faster. We would see but this could get interesting in a hurry. He fits in a variety of ways and is a dynamic player despite what many see as a huge drop off. VLC still offers a ton to a team and will for more years to come than I think some are saying.

Actually since its past the 25th any pending UFA's can take meetings with potential new teams as well

What I meant by my post was essentially that there are no different set of rules for UFA's who were bought out than there are for those who have expiring contracts (except the players bought out can't sign with the team that let them go).

I mistakenly thought you meant these bought out players could sign earlier than other Free Agents.

IIRC teams can meet with potential FA and discuss contracts a week before Free Agency starts, they just can't sign anyone until July 5th. I think this was done so that we don't have any kind of week or longer hold up that slows down the entire offseason.
